30 Days of Writing, Day 6: flame

Continued from yesterday - thanks, prompt meme!

using the prompts below, write a drabble (or whatever) a day for the next 30 days. find someone willing to hit you if you miss a day. look back at the end and go ‘oh! i’m a writer!’.

beginning. accusation. restless. snowflake. haze. flame. formal. companion. move. silver. prepared. knowledge. denial. wind. order. thanks. look. summer. transformation. tremble. sunset. mad. thousand. outside. winter. diamond. letters. promise. simple. future.

Their feet pound the dirt in sync. Lyme shakes off the odd camaraderie from hearing his steps, his ragged gasps, in tune with hers. She would kill him but the flames roar - heat soaks her shirt - and there’s no time.

They stumble as the ground dips, hidden by serrated razor-grass. Lyme catches herself, keeps sprinting. D9M does not.

The worst part: for a heartbeat, Lyme almost helps him. A useless reflex she didn’t know she had, which vanishes when survival kicks in.

His screams follow as fire sears her calves. The stench lingers long after Lyme outruns the flames.
