Summary:
Davina spent most of her childhood playing in the reality fissure behind her family's farm; now she's been drafted into the Queen's Champions, a force skilled at battling the enemy via trans-dimensional dreamscapes. It's exciting, pays well, and Davina strikes up a close friendship with her battle partner -- who happens to be the Queen's daughter. Davina just needs to keep winning, avoid getting stuck inside a fissure, and decide whether the princess' flirting is real or wishful thinking.
All goes well until a prophetic algorithm, created by a now-elderly child prodigy, predicts that the increasingly-paranoid Queen will go insane, and calculates Davina as the most statistically-viable replacement. This forces Davina to flee and the princess to choose, but the Queen isn't going to let her future usurper just run away ...
Gay Meter: High. The only romantic pairing in this story is f/f, the other relationships are gen and/or ambiguous, all between women.
Angst Meter: Middling. Lots of Shakespearean-esque themes of drama and betrayal.
Weird Meter: Middling, again. Everyone is human, but space battles take place inside interstitial dimensions where the only limits are what you can make it do. Want to ride a dinosaur? Make a dinosaur. Want swords? You got it. Just make sure you don't lose control, because then you die.
Self-Indulgence Meter: High! Absolutely no dudes in this story whatsoever other than the prediction machine, who's given a dude nickname by its creator. Every actual character in this is female, because I am tired of reading about dudes. Sorry, dudes.
