Dodgeball Conspiracy (Band AU): Universe Primer
Summary: A band AU involving original characters. The band is named "The Dodgeball Conspiracy" (because "The Placenta Eaters" and "Vagina Connoisseurs" didn't pass the PC test). The band began when its members were in their final years of high school, and at the point where the story begins has taken off and become the sort of group that inspires 13-year-olds to flood message boards with declarations of their future elopement. Its fanbase, as I've described it elsewhere, is made up primarily of "teenagers and ironic twenty-somethings", though, as with anything, there are exceptions on either end of that scale.
TDC's members are: Corin Allen (lead vocals), Ezra Openowski (lyricist, lead guitar), Charlie MacKendrick (lyricist, drums), Matt Costello (bass, music, occasional lyricist), and Andy Reed (backup vocals, music, cello). Their shticks involve ridiculous costumes (anywhere from pinstripe suits to glitter & feathers to undead mimes), Ezra and his millions of hats, massive amounts of stagegay between all members, no one realizing Charlie is actually a girl, and songs that are a mix of happy, silly, word-punny, unexpected, and occasionally sincere/sweet.
The story itself (without spoiling anyone) takes place during the tour for their third album and afterward. It involves antics, an Internet scavenger hunt, a romance that is not so much "romantic" as it is "exasperated", an Incident that makes it not so funny for a while, various hijinks, and an exploding bus.
Gay Meter: High. The band members engage in massive amounts of stagegay in order to mess with/please their fanbase. Whether or not any of it is for real is yet to be decided. ;)
Angst Meter: Low to middling. There will be serious things in there, and one storyline in particular has a lot more emotional drama, but for the most part, nah. This is a fun and silly story, folks.
Weird Meter: Low. The canon is urban fantasy; this alternate universe is entirely real-world. About as weird as it gets are Ezra's costume designs.
Self-Indulgence Meter: Middling. Rockstar AUs are a weakness, not going to lie.
