Yuletide - The Movie Edition

Jan 02, 2011 21:48

OK - so have decided to split this into three posts, so that if my growing sense of nausea overthrows me, I'll be able to stop sooner. So first up are the stories in movie fandoms, as this covers both my official stories (yay - I got a pinch hit - a pinch hit I'd actually already written, as I wrote about six treats whilst waiting for the official assignments to be sent out).

THE BAKER

Four Times Eggs Ruined Milo's Life and One Time He Saved It... by lorannah for omphale23
The meandering path to love never did run smoothly, but at least Eggs is here to help...
PG, 7,840 words, M/F

This film is a secret favourite of mine, though it's not one that many people have seen - it's a bit like Hot Fuzz got together with a nice old-fashioned romantic comedy and produced this which is a little bit between the two. It's both conventional and quirky and features disillusioned assassins and Wales and Dyfan Dwyfor (who is a favourite of mine at the RSC) and Anthony O'Donnell (who is a favourite of mine in everything I've ever seen him in) and the messiest sex scene ever. More people should see it for the ordering the cake scene alone.
I had a great deal of fun writing the story - even trying to work out the Welsh (which is almost certainly wrong) and I watched the film about eight times whilst I was writing the story, which led to terrible cravings for doughnuts.

AN EDUCATION

Fallen Leaves by lorannah for lyricalnights
Years ago Danny told her to see Juliette Greco in Paris.
Teen, 2,169 words, M/F
Danny and Jenny meet up in Paris in 1963.

I saw An Education when it was at the cinema and came out full of ideas about the way all the characters loved each other and were all entirely mixed up by that love and how messy and complicated and close to beautiful it was. So when I saw this prompt, which was also about some of those things, I rushed out and finally bought the DVD and then wrote this out in one sitting (and many revisions). I think it's turned out to be my most popular story this year, though that's definitely subjective, despite the weird tense (reading Wolf Hall, whilst excellent, did odd things to the control of my tenses as all my wonderful beta's will attest).

HISTORY BOYS

Obviously this could have gone in the theatre section, but I've not seen History Boys on stage yet (February!) - so the film it it. These boys are so much fun to write. :D

Shadows by lorannah for healingmirth
Dorothy sometimes wonders if the students are haunting her or if she is haunting them.
PG, 1,272 words, Gen
I really love Lintott - in a film full of boys, she is a breath of fresh air - so I couldn't resist writing a little story about her. And as I love Scripps as well, he worked his way in too.

On Dover Beach by lorannah for sophieisgod
Cathedrals crumble into the sea. Sometimes.
Teen, 2,322 words, M/M
Another prompt I couldn't resist. The poem is so ridiculously beautiful - of course I had to write porn to it... and to the Lord's Prayer apparently. Scripps and Dakin on a beach at night...

Not sure if I'll get round to the others tonight, but there is always the morning.
