Excellent, more Wimseyfic! I suppose on the plus side of Peter's wibble about Harriet's motivations (and he never would be able to push it to one side and not worry, because he'd always wonder and the thought of the possibility, after the initial night of not caring just because, would inevitably end up poisoning the entire relationship), at least he does know that Harriet will tell him the truth, one way or the other.

He's going to end up presenting himself in that state of utter prostration eventually.

I admit to imagining Harriet as a tennis player myself. It would be an excellent way of working out her irritations.

Hmm, I shall have to think about utter prostration. I was sort of thinking of keeping it understated, but prostration would be fun and would add some probably much needed drama (since I do not have a Plot as such).

Currently being held up by wondering whether moderately well off Harriet would have spent the war remaking her pre war clothes, and would have anything in the way of smart outfits (or clothing coupons) left in 1945. She is currently being seized by an unwonted desire to look nice.

It could be moderate prostration if that would work better ;-)

Perhaps Harriet could symbolically make over something pre-war that Peter remembers (HHC dress!). Or have acquired something via a friend overseas, or beg a friend who has got something for a loan

I think I now have an scenario for complete prostration that pleases me *rubs hands*

Oooh, wine-coloured dress. Good idea! Though I think Harriet will find that unlike her gown, it is moth-eaten and full of holes (and to hell with symbolism).

Splendid! I look forward to it.

Incidentally, on re-reading it struck me that a touch of sexual jealousy is suggested by Peter's niggle?

Re: jealousy, oh yes. Well for starters, through no fault of his own, he's both older than he used to be, and a bit out of practice (I'm not doing POW slash). And he was able to persuade himself he was quite ok with her having slept with Boyes as long as he was sure Boyes was no good in bed. But this threatens him more because maybe the bar has been set high.
