Turkey Condemns U.S. Bill on Armenian Genocide

Oct 11, 2007 08:51

Turkey swiftly condemned a House panel's approval of a bill describing the World War I-era mass killings of Armenians as genocide, and newspapers blasted the measure on their front pages Thursday. Please, read more...

My favourite bit? "Its passage would do great harm to our relations with a key ally in NATO and in the global war on terror," Bush said of the bill. Yes, because OIL is far more important than the recogition of the massacre of innocent people-- a massacre carried out by a country (Turkey) that has since outlawed even mentioning the Armenian Genocide or that there even was a Genocide. A "bill of hatred", Hurriyet? We are not asking for anyone to hate anyone else; nor are we are trying to re-write history; if we could, we'd be re-writing in the 1.5 million victims whose lives were destroyed by the Ottoman Empire. The truth is painful, it hurts. The least we can do is recognize the damage done by the Turkish Government.

& Bush? I'm not going onto a Bush-bashing rant; I'm sorry, but he's not worth it. However, for one to put fiscal reasoning above human life...? & for that person to be the President of the United States of America? Yes, we should be afraid.I'm so angry right now, I can't even think coherently, let alone write. I'm sorry. If you're in any way affected by this story, touched, or just want to do some good in the world, please visit the website of Armenian National Committee of America. You can also keep yourself updated & informed by visiting the Armenian Diaspora.

This is something that I am wildly passionate about; any & all effort is a great help.

Thanks so much.
