Loor: "Well, I'm gonna get between Chris and Guy."
Chris: "Many women have tried, but few have succeeded."

How it came to be
The week before the show I was downtown with Mellie and Cin. They'd gone into the Music World to buy the new Hawksley Workman disc. Bored, I stood at the ballot box display to win Coldplay tickets. I stuffed it with three and we left. The next week it was a shitty shitty Thursday at work. I came back from a break and checked my messages.

"Hi Laura, This is Ian Clark from the Metro newspaper. I'm just calling to inform you that you won the grand pirze draw for Coldplay tickets."

Cool right? Yeah, so I called him back and got the details. Coldplay tickets, a meet n' greet, both Coldplay and Richard Ashcroft/The Verve cd libraries and a bunch of swag. Next, I called Mellie and we exchanged excitement.

The Show - Richard Ashcroft
We arrived at the arena at 8:05pm for the 8:15pm meet n' greet. We were Met n' Gretted by Erik, the EMI guy who told us it was pushed back to 8:40pm. Cool, so we went to watch some of Richard Ashcroft, amazing. We saw Break the Night With Colour, Lucky Man and a couple we didn't know. Richard is a hot preformer. Not a hot guy, but a hot performer, really top notch, sounded great.

Meet n' Greet
When it was time to go meet n' greet we gathered and chatted with the other contest winners (about 8 of us in the group total), then were ushered downstairs (players area). Coldplay's wrangers went over what was going to happen and we felt like we weren't even in Ottawa anymore because of all the cool British people. About 20 minutes goes by and at 9:15pm Coldplay come out. First Chris, then Will, Johny and Guy. They signed our stuff, chatted for a bit and we all got in a group photo.
There were many cute things said. The boys were very nice and polite and attrative and tall.

The Show - Coldplay
They opened with Square One, followed by Politik and then Yellow - during which a dozen yellow balloons filled with gold confetti fell from the rafters. They played from Rush of Blood to the Head and X&Y mostly, and with a lot more energy than when I saw them in 2003. The whole crowd, 15,000 thick, stood for the whole show only sitting during some of the slow songs. Chris dedicated God Put a Smile on Your Face to "the best band on the planet" the Arcade Fire and they covered Ring of Fire for "the greatest Canadian ever - Johnny Cash". They closed the show with Fix You and I can't remember the encore songs. It was a really good show, huge energy, completly satisfying. Not bad for only paying the price of parking.

Post show
