I hate this conversation:
"are you married?"
yes.
"do you have kids?"
no.
"do you want kids?"
WTF?!?!???
If I don't have kids, it is either because I don't want them or can't have them, neither of which is a situation I want to talk about with a near-stranger. I don't want kids but have learned to lie about it somewhat (well, downgrade to "maybe someday, I'm enjoying being an auntie") so that the person doesn't take an immediate dislike to me, because everybody knows that a woman who doesn't want kids is messed up and hates all children everywhere. But if I wanted them and couldn't have them, that is an incredibly personal thing to be talking about. People should be more careful with their small talk. I have had this conversation countless times, never with anyone I wanted to discuss my reproductive choices with.
