Moony has the whole dining room set up for research. There are books laid out everywhere, and parchments and quills. He's throwing himself into this project
(because Adrian asked me to)because he wants to distract himself. Down the hall, there's a room that was never there before. It's cloaked, of course, and can't be seen or felt by anyone ( Read more... )

"Please do remember, you're always welcome here." Remus watches him struggle with what to do with the books, shrugging calmly when Adrian sets them on the floor. He notices how tense Adrian is (Moony notices more about Adrian than is probably normal; when it comes to Adrian, Moony watches like a hawk) and considers surreptitiously hitting him with a relaxation spell, partly because his tension is contagious, and partially because Remus is just curious if it would work on a dhampyre. "No, I think Dracula needs killing just for the hell of it, as well. However, we might want to take care of this Jimmy business first. If Dracula gets killed and we can't find the crystal, we might be out of luck. There are locater spells that might help, but I'm sure Dracula would have considered that. Just remember, so much of this is up in the air right now, so try to keep calm. Unfortunately, a lot of books about magic are very vague. It's too keep the information from getting into ignorant hands. But I've only just started researching today, and I've already learned a lot. We'll get him back, Adrian, don't worry."

Clasping his hands, Adrian tries to restrain his impulse to get up and pace, since he's already done so much of that. Although he normally reserves it for battle situations where his nerves get the better of him, he stops his heart to help keep the adrenaline from coursing through his system. After a few moments he calms down enough to focus. "You've found so much already, thank you. Willow has found a little, and she might be able to manage a locator spell. She wasn't sure how he was bound though. Knowing that it's a crystal should help her with that part. You should concentrate on the means to break it, and what to do if Dracula's got it blocked so we can't locate it magically. Right now you and she are the only people available, so I should probably see who else I can get. If he has a location anything like his castle, I won't be able to vanish and get inside, he'll have wards against that set to himself. I may need assistance breaking in, I should check into that."

Remus watches the change, completely fascinated. He wants to ask how Adrian calmed himself like that, but it's not really important at this point. "It's nothing at all. I'm glad to help. And I'm very relieved that Willow might be able to do a locator spell, because I'm really crap at them. I'm virtually positive that it's a crystal of some kind, and breaking it has been the focus of my studies since I determined what it must be. Who else you can get to help magically? Or are you thinking brute strength? There aren't too many people around here with magical inclination." Remus thinks guiltily of Sirius, who was always better at the practical aspects of magic than he was. Even so, Remus isn't ready to share Sirius yet. Not for Jimmy. "If he has wards up, there's a chance I can break them, at least momentarily. Also, if the wards are set to your particular kind of inherent magic, I can probably still apparate through them. If I focus enough, I can disapparate us both; I did it before, after you and Sonia fought."

Adrian faces Remus, observing him intently and listening without interjecting. "I can't think of any other magic users that would be able to help with this. I believe Samantha is a witch, but I haven't even spoken to her. And there is no way Sonia will allow me to use Jeannie to rescue Jimmy. I'll probably look into asking Whistler, except he wan't too fond of Jimmy either. That does get to be problematic at times." Although he notices the pause, Adrian assumes Remus is just pondering the situaton. "He might not have considered your world's magic, and the two seem somewhat incompatable, so there is a good chance he won't be prepared for it. It's so much harder to do more than one person, will it drain your magic a lot, or is it just a focus issue? I keep meaning to see if I stand a chance of learning your type of magic, mine is handy for myself, but useless for helping others for the most part. I doubt I have the talent needed, though."

"There aren't too many who would be very helpful, I'm afraid. Jeannie is out? That's unfortunate, she would probably be useful." Remus wracks his brain, trying to think of people that could help. "It might be something useful. Also, my worlds magic isn't a single kind of magic, as much as thousands of different spells, so the kind of wards that will stop vampiric magic are usually useless against it. He'd have to put up wards for every single spell to stop me entirely, and that would be almost impossible. Disapparating with more than one person isn't a draining thing, as much as a concentration thing. If I wasn't paying attention, we could come through on the other side splinched - fused together. Not helpful. That rarely happens, though. And on quite on the contrary, I'm sure you would have more than enough talent to learn our magic. Even Muggles can be taught a little, and you're far from a Muggle. With your own background, you'd stand a better chance of learning than most. I'd love to try to teach you, sometime. I bet you'd pick it up quickly."

"I could probably check about Jeannie, but somehow I doubt it." Adrian exhales slowly, trying to keep from getting frustrated all over again. "I hope his magic skills are not up to that level of protection, then. Even he has his limits. I had no idea disapparating could be dangerous like that. I hope you are able to focus then, I like you but I'd rather not end up fused like that. When I vanish it's something else entirely, I don't think that result is possible at all. And if you think I'd stand a chance, I'm willing to try. My mother was a witch, that has to count for something."

Remus nods absently, as he reaches over to take a piece of paper with some notes scribbled on it. He stares for a second, then frowns, muttering to himself.

"Yes, we'll look into that, Adrian. If you'll excuse me, I just remembered something. I don't have the book I need here, so I'm going to run off. I'll be back in a jiffy."

Without another word, Remus disapparates.

Adrian watches, wondering if Remus has an answer for him.

"All right, Moony."

Adrian stares blankly, and sits for a while, waiting as patiently as he can. Quite a bit of time passes, though, and eventually he gets too frustrated to wait, wanting to get something accomplishes. He vanishes, returning to his own library.
