True story:

Random people walk into the clinic today holding a just-born puppy that looks an awful lot like this. I hear them talking to the receptionist, who runs the creature back to the doctor in the palm of her hand to ask a question for these people ( Read more... )

My guess is that it's already dead, or if not tonight, then when the brilliant owners check on it tomorrow. *shrug* Not holding my breath on this one.

I can't bring myself to look at the picture, but that's awful and people are idiots. Poor thing.

For what it's worth, my family gets our long-haired cat shaved every year, and he seems to appreciate it (though he acts embarrassed for the first few days) - he stays cool, and it's a lot easier for him to stay clean.

*grins* It has nothing to do with the owner - I guess some cat hair types mat worse than others. You can cut off the mats with scissors, but there'll always be more of them... the shave we get leaves about a quarter-inch of hair, and is typically just the body (so the lower half of the legs, his head, and the end of his tail are at their normal length). Ours costs about $100, but that's mostly for sedation because the cat's a pill. XD If Ezra doesn't mind brushing, he should be fine. Local groomers or places like Petsmart should have really reasonable prices.

I really, really hate backyard breeders. >:( That is really a special kind of stupid.
Poor puppy. But I don't think pups with that problem are viable. I've seen similar ones with the brain sticking out, or organs sticking out, and the vet usually told us they just weren't going to make it and had to be put down. :(
