While I normally regret seeing webcomics come to an end, I must admit to having conflicted feelings concerning the final storyline of the surreal meta-webcomic
Striptease. Part of this is due to my dislike of the comic’s bizarre need to merge the comic-creating world with superspy hijinks and other assorted insanity. Personally I found Striptease worked best when it focused on character interactions and the more mundane aspects of print comic creation.
The latest storyline which merged super-soldier serums, mad science, revenge and the like has left me looking forward to the comic’s end. To be honest, the only reason I’m still reading is because this is the final storyline, and I’ve invested this much time and effort into the comic to quit during the end-game. Sadly, this latest plot-twist with the protagonist kissing his brainwashed girlfriend to snap her out of her programming is enough to make me regret giving the comic this last chance.
My only hope now is for one last twist with the final couple of comics when we learn this last story was in fact is a comic strip created by the protagonist to sell books. Given the meta-nature of the comic, I’d not be startled by the creation of a comic-within-a-webcomic (though to be honest, I’d not expect that comic to sell even in the indie market). But even with this type of twist, I’m not sure if anything can be salvaged by the ongoing train-wreck that Striptease has become.
