[It's a well-known fact by anyone who's lived in Luceti long enough that one doesn't always want to have their journal around. They have an annoying tendency to open at awkward moments, for one thing.

But at the same time, a reporter needs something to write in. Even if there's no one to report to ( Read more... )

luceti needs a newspaper, notes notes notes

[Ami, also carrying a book, hadn't really expected to run into anyone. She gives Clark a somewhat shy nod, and sits down a polite distance away.]

[Clark lifts his head when he notices the young lady approaching, and gives a nod and a pleasant smile.]

Afternoon, Miss.

[She returns the smile, though hers seems a bit awkward still, and holds up her book. It turns out to be a physics text. Looks a bit advanced for her apparent age, but this is Luceti; the standards are pretty different.]

[Clark recognizes the title pretty easily, and he doesn't think that much of it. Goodness knows he knows plenty of people around her age who are studying the same sort of stuff... even if most of them aren't quite human.]

Keeping up with your studies even in Luceti? That's certainly admirable.

[She should say something. Ami reaches for her communicator (which has the appearance of a small cell phone, from her world), and types for a moment; not without a twinge of worry that Clark may think her rude for seeming to ignore him. It turns out she isn't ignoring him: She turns the screen to face him.]

I don't want to fall behind for when I go home. I'm studying to be a doctor there.

[Clark watches her typing with curiosity, figuring by this point that she has to have some reason not to be talking. He's wondering if she might be deaf and considering switching to sign language when she turns the screen to him.]

Ah, I see. That's a great goal to have. How long have you been working at it?

[The senshi communicators were mostly to use just among the senshi, of course; but they still function as normal cell phones, too, even texting Mama occasionally. These days in Luceti? It's been invaluable.

She writes the next message, making an awkward break in the conversation with this reply, too.]

As long as I can remember. My mother is a doctor.

So you're following in her footsteps, then? That's wonderful, she must be very proud of you.

Do you work at the clinic here then?

[Ami shakes her head even as she types.]

I'm still too young for a hospital staff.

[He nods at that.] Good point, though I'm not so sure that matters here, if you've got the know-how. But even so, it's good to know your limits.

[She keeps her eyes on the phone mostly, though she answers readily.]

But some day I'll be ready.

[Action] How's that? lookslikeajob December 16 2010, 03:46:13 UTC
Exactly. You just have to be patient, and keep doing exactly what you're doing.

But you don't need me to tell you that.

Well, I try for that. I always say, if you put your mind to it you can do just about anything.

[There's a little pause, and then he gives a little bow, hands folded in front of him.] But I've been rude. I'm Clark Kent, miss.

[Ami returns the gesture with a slight, half-bow of her own. She brings up her name on the phone.]

Ami Mizuno.

Pleasure to meet you, Mizuno-san.

[It can be hard to tell, what with Luceti automatically translating everything, but that last sentence was in Japanese.]
