Guiding Plantman around Nay...

Oct 08, 2005 18:33

*When Wendel leads her companion out of the mists, both are standing in a back alleyway, surrounded on three sides by high walls of grey stone. Ahead of them, the main village itself consists of several neatly arranged buildings of stone and wood, with a couple of merchant's stalls tucked close to the steps leading from one level to the next. *Plantman looked around, openly curious at a world so different from the one 'he' was from. The Nay-Kobalds did remind Plant, very vaguely, of Pluto - the feline member of the Stardroids.*

*Plant wondered briefly if Robot Master armor was a bit conspicuous for this place, but so far no one had said anything. The Brazilian-designed DWN patted the petals on their helmet in a manner similar to a girl fluffing their hair, before gathering up the flower pots and following Wendel*

*The stairs lead to a large, smooth stone walkway that overlooks the port and beach. Wendel leads him over to a steep set of stairs set against the side of a hill, walking past a couple more Nay-Kobolds. Both pause to watch the passing man, but soon shrug and resume their conversation. Another few steps and the stone gives way to dirt, as Wendel very noticeably goes on guard.*

We're here. We'll need to be careful, it's not like Savage Sprouts are the only things around here...

*Stonecutter's Field is precisely what the name suggests: a wide, open field with a single dusty path winding through it, leading up to the mountains off in the distance. Large gray boulders jut out of the grass in several places, with a few trees scattered across the rolling landscape. There doesn't appear to be any sign of monsters at first glance, but anyone paying enough attention to their surroundings can hear the rustle of displaced grass, the calls of animals and low buzz of insects.*

*Plantman is immediately interested in the area.* How odd. Most carnivorous plants are from boggy areas, where they do not get enough nutrients from the soil.

*The Robot Master frowns slightly, wondering what could cause such an adaption here. Plant quickly takes a soil sample, placing it in a compartment on their armor for detailed analysis. They also keep a careful watch on the surrounding landscape for the Sprouts, or anything else that might show up.*

*shrugs slightly, advancing forward with her metal claws out and ready in her hands* I don't know much about plants, just how the ones here work... We'll have to step off the path. The way I understand it, they usually hide under the grass...

*She freezes as a couple of large hornets fly past -- both look slightly bigger than her torso, with long, threatening stingers. Thankfully, they buzz past, and she lets out a little sigh of relief.*

...Really gotta be careful...

*Plantman cringes slightly. Bees. Of course there would be bees.* Sim, sim. *corrects to English instead of Portugese* Yes. very careful.

*The robot master hoped their armor design would not attract the hornets as they stepped off the path*

*glancing around* Golden wolves are common around here, too... they usually travel in packs. *smirks* Maybe it's all the Nay-Kobolds around... There's also some giant frogs, but they only show up around the bridge leading over to Nay, so we should be safe out here...

We just have to look for patches of earth that look weird... That'd be our best bet.

*Plantman nodded, picturing a pack of golden colored repaints of Gospel, Forte's support unit. That would not be fun to encounter. The robot master looked around for patches of grass that looked deep enough to for something to hide in.* Perhaps there?

((sorry for the delay, LJ wasn't letting me post for some reason))

Right...

*As she creeps toward the area he pointed out, the earth shifts -- and then explodes outward as the creature buried underneath rears up, looming over the pair. What Wendel apparently forgot to mention is that your average Savage Sprout is about twice the height of your typical adult male... She stumbles back, wide-eyed and clearly tense.*

....Well, your hunch is paying off... *laughs nervously*

((Don't worry about it. I had to get off for a while anyway. ^^; ))

*Plant had been expecting something large, if they preyed on travellers. But this large? Oh my! The Robot Master takes a startled step back, and brings up the Plant Barrier shield, making sure that Wendel was within its effective area. They are both immediately surrounded by a protective energy field. Occasionally the illusion of petals like the ones on Plantman's helmet can be seen, ghostlike, 'floating' in the shield.*

*Plant quickly eyes where the root structure must be. Most insectivores have shallow roots, but something this size?* I do hope I brought big enough pots, não?

Yeah... Hang on, I wanna try something.

*Narrowing her eyes, Wendel clenches her left hand into a fist and starts chanting quietly under her breath. The back of her hand starts to glow a faint green, or blue... it's hard to tell.*

*Plant keeps a studious but wary eye on the Sprout as Wendel does whatever she has in mind. The Plant Barrier should keep them safe, at least for a while.*

*After a minute or so of chanting, Wendel raises her arm. There's a bright flash of green-blue light, and a thick, reddish fog surrounds the plant. A heady fragrence wafts back toward them, while rose petals seem to drift momentarily in the mist. Wendel stares intently, praying the sleep spell works...*

*Plant blinks in surprise, having never seen a human with abilities like that. The Robot Master watches the Savage Sprout curiously, wondering what will happen to it.*

*The plant sways slightly, hunching down -- then the flap opens and a cloud of pollen gushes out. Wendel curses and stumbles back, instinctively covering her mouth.*

*Plant makes a mental note to study the pollen, confident that the Plant Barrier will easily protect them from such a light substance. The Robot Master makes no move to cover mouth or nose, though they do temporarily shut down their secondary cooling system as a precaution.*

*Apparently sensing the attack's failure, the Savage Sprout leans over farther and opens its flap up wide. Wendel cries out in panic as she starts to slide forward, then plants her feet and does her best to brace against the suction, chanting between raspy breaths.*
