As some of you know, I work in retail. This means that I spend between thirty-six and forty hours a week listening to absolutely terrible music. And by terrible music, I mean Milli Vanilli, Whitesnake, and "Who Let the Dogs Out." Also? A post-9/11 patriotic version of "Tubthumping" by Chumbawumba that goes "We're a little black, we're a little white. We're a little left, we're a little right. Many accents, colors, and cultures; we agree to disagree on all but freedom." I swear to God I'm not even making that up. It's a real song. I've really heard it. It's awful. And since our music comes not via fancy satellite XM radio, but rather via cd, I have heard that song, and the Milli Vanilli, and "Who Let the Dogs" out about a million times since I started working there.
Now. On very, very rare occasions, there is something good on the cd. Jason Mraz makes me smile, and I have a soft spot for some of the nineties stuff, like "Brimful of Asha" and "Get What You Give." But these moments are few and far between. Usually it's just "Total Eclipse of the Heart." On a loop.
The new CD just came in today. I have been at work for less than three (<3!) hours, and so far I have heard Bruno Mars, the Monkees (okay, Anne Murray covering the Monkees, but still, "Daydream Believer" is my jam), LADY MOTHERFUCKING GAGA, and the Warblers' cover of "Silly Love Songs," which almost made me fall off my ladder in excitement. And "Hey Soul Sister," which I realize is one of the most hated songs in America, but since I pretty much only listen to NPR, I'm not sick of it yet, so whatever.
I guess my point is that inventory week just got a hell of a lot easier for me. Because it's one thing to work overtime scrambling frantically to get the largest department in the store ready for inventory -- it's another thing to have to do that while listening to "Who Let the Dogs Out" over and over again.
i'm not sure either
