RIP
Chief Justice William Rehnquist died this weekend. This creates even more worrisome prospects for the future of American civil liberties. I don't think it is much of a shock that I am this close to being a card carrying member of the ACLU, and I am deeply concerned about the nominations that President Bush will be making to fill two vacancies on the court, as well as the appointment of a new Chief Justice. In the wake of Katrina and with the Congress and Courts being in recess I just hope that the Republican's trying to repeal the filibuster and the Democrats trying desperately to protect sacred decisions like Roe v. Wade and Texas v. Johnson don't fly under the radar.
