I never bother with Twitter [can't get my head round it] but as soon as the first transmission happened I went looking for yours. I was almost tempted to make an account just to agree with your post, too.
I spent hours last night on the 606 forums debating with people. The vast majority thought Ferrari were wrong and Felipe had been treated badly, but there were still some who couldn't see the problem, or various other intricacies.
Anyway. Yeah. Why the fuck doesn't he deserve a victory now? He has deserved one for a very long time. It's taken a lot to get his mojo back, and I was proper excited during this race for the first time in ages, seeing him get third and then run into the lead [and I knew the start would be good, his always are] and then to have it just taken away from him, halfway through the season, not even like it's the end...UGH.
What hurts me most is the fact that y'know, being part of a team means sticking up for each other. Not supporting each other till it gets to the crunch and then stepping on your teammate's fingers to get where you are. Alonso with his, "This is ridiculous!" and hand gestures? Fuck right off. I don't understand why you would want to win if you can't do it fairly. You're only the best by beating the best. If you can't pass, then you're not good enough to win, end of.
I can't blame Alonso totally, obviously, because he didn't make Stefano give the order, and if he had pulled back same as Felipe did then Vettel would've come and overtaken them both, but...ugh. I know he won't have minded one goddamn bit about taking the lead. Though he might mind somewhat about how the press and the fans treat him afterwards.
I really do want Felipe and Rob to go somewhere else next year. The sad thing is that Ferrari is supposed to be a family, properly, and usually they are really good to him, but every now and again something like this comes along and reminds you that actually, they prize money over people in the end.
I've been thinking the same as you all along - if we feel betrayed, how must Felipe and Rob feel?
The revised points system meant Felipe's championship position looked worse than it was. For Ferrari to have written off his championship chances smacks of outright stupidity and complacency that Fernando couldn't possibly have a similar bad run of luck in the future. You just cannot put all your eggs in one basket barely halfway through the season.
I hope, when Fernando was gesturing and saying 'This is ridiculous!' that he meant the difficulty getting past the backmarkers rather than Felipe. (Unless, for whatever bizarre reason, Ferrari had been telling Fernando to hold station behind Felipe...) I try to see the best in him, and I do like the guy, but it's so difficult when he ends up in situations like this with those words hanging over his head.
Vettel wasn't closing on the Ferraris fast enough for it to be a serious concern at the time, so if that ends up being one of Ferrari's excuses, it's a paltry one.
I'm glad Rob made is so glaringly obvious that it was a team order. Clear that he wasn't happy and where his loyalty lay in that situation. I don't want to think about the future, because I'm not liking any of the scenarios I'm coming up with when I do.
P.S. You should bother with Twitter! Sniff Petrol tweets during the races, for one. Many lulz are had.
