What if

What if you can't breastfeed because of the medication you need to take? Tired of the breastfeeding pressure. I know it's better for the baby and it's a lot cheaper, but what if the mother ends up sick because she did not have the medication that she needed? That wouldn't be good for the baby either.

The breastfeeding debate gets me worked up

LET ME TELL YOU WHAT.

1) Sometimes NOT breastfeeding is best for the baby. It is in the baby's best interest to have a sane, healthy mother. If the mother needs to take medication to remain healthy and sane, but this means she cannot breastfeed, then so be it. And I will PERSONALLY kick the ass of anyone who argues this point. I am serious. I will personally make an appearance at the house of the person whose ass needs to be kicked, and I will kick that ass all the way up between his/her shoulder blades.

2) Your baby will not die if you give it formula instead of breastfeeding, nor will it suffer prohibitive ill effects. Yes, we know, "breast is best". However, formula is a close second, and feeding the baby formula is infinitely preferable to having to have the mother institutionalized because she stayed off her meds so she could breastfeed.

3) Let's talk about expense. Yes, formula is typically more expensive than breastfeeding. You know what else is expensive? Having to pay for long term inpatient mental health therapy, or god fucking forbid, having to hire a nanny because the baby's mother, having not taken the medication that is clearly necessary for her sanity and survival, killed herself.

Take your meds. I've seen what happens when you don't. I love you. I will be physically present at your house as often as humanly possible after the baby is born, but TAKE YOUR MEDS.
