Writer's Block: The happiest movies on earth

My favorite disney movie is also my favorite movie of all time- The Little Mermaid. The music's fantastic, the colours are great, Prince Eric actually DOES things and I think it's probably one of the only times a disney father figure isn't a goofy, short, fat man. King Triton is huge and impressive and even scary, but an awesome dad. Ariel is clearly the best-looking of all of the disney princesses and rocks awesome 80s hair. The fairy tale it's based on is so good and so sad and I think the ending disney gave the movie was wonderful and made it much more empowering to young girls.

Honorable mention goes to The Princess and The Frog. If this movie had come out when I was a child it might actually have moved into the top slot. The music is fantastic and I even like the setting better - Lord knows I love me some New Orleans. Although Dr. Facilier will never be as terrifying as a giant octopus with a magical trident, he does do the scary voodoo witch doctor well. I also would like to give props to disney for showing that Voodoo has good an bad sides to it. I must admit I think that showing the only black disney princess as being a woman with culinary skills from a southern bayou is a tiny bit... not racist so much as... stereotypical. Though it's better than no black disney princess, for sure. Also, fuck Oprah.
