Home Sick, a Boring Post

Dec 16, 2009 11:05

I almost never take a sick day from work because a) I work three days a week and so I can usually power through a shaky day and get to the day when I don't hope to earn money and lie around then, and b) I don't get sick much, and c) I don't get paid when I don't work, so the motivation to go in is pretty strong.

Anyway, by yesterday afternoon I felt so punky, and my sinuses so sore, that I called all my clients and canceled today. Then I went to the drugstore and bought Nyquill, Dayquill, Twilightquill, Cockcrowquill and Crepusculequill. Apparently they now make Sudafed in two varieties - off-the-shelf and behind-the-counter, which still contains pseudenephrine. I got the hard stuff, so I had to sign a book and show my ID. I told the clerk I was running a very, very small artisinal meth lab and only needed one package. This is the kind of ill-advised joke that gets you a stony glare at the airport, but she laughed.

I couldn't cancel all the things I had to do yesterday, so I still went to therapy, dropped things at the homeless shelter, mailed a gift to my brother, took Midnight to the vet, got smoothies for two girls (three, if you count me) and picked them up after chorus rehearsal. Then I came home and made dinner. I am proud of myself because I had three leftover things and actually thought of what they added up to - canned pumpkin, chicken broth and cream = curried pumpkin soup!

I wish I could enjoy being at home, but my head feels like an overstuffed bag. I'm going to make some jewelry once the meds kick in, then watch an episode of House and read Middlesex, which is very good, and maybe go on to Tipping the Velvet.
