my fantasy football team looks a little different now than it did in the start of the year. I'm 3-4 right now and not happy about it. I didn't have 4 losses all of last year! So through some trades that I'm liking alot right now as well as some great free agent pick-ups I think my team can turn this around.
Team BEFORE:
QB - Peyton Manning (Colts)
QB - Tom Brady (Patriots
RB - Tiki Barber (Giants)
RB - Ahman Green (Packers)
RB - Fred Taylor (Jaguars)
RB - Kevan Barlow (49ers)
WR - Marvin Harrison (Colts)
WR - Reggie Wayne (Colts)
WR - Brandon Stokley (Colts
WR - Larry Fitzgerald (Cardinals)
WR - Deion Branch (Patriots)
WR - Muhsin Mohammad (Bears)
TE - Dallas Clark (Colts)
K - Mike Nugent (Jets)
D - Miami (Dolphins.... jackass)
Team NOW:
QB - Mark Brunell (Redskins)
QB - Tom Brady (Patriots)
RB - Willis McGahee (Bills)
RB - Tiki Barber (Giants)
RB - Tatum Bell (Broncos)
RB - Antowain Smith (Saints)
RB - Tony Fisher (Packers)
WR - Marvin Harrison (Colts)
WR - Reggie Wayne (Colts)
WR - Larry Fitzgerald (Cardinals)
WR - Deion Branch (Patriots)
WR - Antonio Bryant (Browns
TE - Antonio Gates (Chargers)
K - John Kasay (Panthers)
D - Chicago (Bears.... jackass)
I picked up Brunell once it became apparent that he was performing on a consistent week to week basis although at the time I didn't really think I'd use him since I had Manning and Brady but it was more to keep him from other teams than anything else. Bell was a steal in free agency as an impatient owner seeing Mike Anderson get all the carries let him go and I immediately snagged him knowing Shanahan would go back to his usual running back by committee. I picked up Antowain Smith immediately after Deuce McAllister went down. Fisher is now the 3rd Packers running back I've had on this team as I also had Najeh Davenport for a cup of coffee back when Ahman Green was only day-to-day instead of done for the year. I picked up Bryant literally minutes ago liking him against the Texans defense this week as I needed someone to fill the gap with Harrison and Wayne on a bye (although I might still start Branch instead, haven't decided). Kasay and the Bears were just better options than what I had.
Now for the trades:
Heath Miller (tight end Steelers)
Ahman Green
for
Antonio Gates
that's right I had the benefit or trading Ahman Green 3 days before he was done for the year. Lucky I guess but this was a great trade regardless as I had just picked up Miller via Free Agency and turned that move into getting the best Tight End in the game. I win
and most recently there was:
Peyton Manning
Fred Taylor
for
Willis McGahee
every other year fantasy wise I would build a strong foundation at running back as its the consistent and smary thing to do. However I thought that if there ever were a sure thing it was the Colts passing game. I was wrong. As it became more and more evident that the Colts had shifted their focus to a power running attack at all spots on the field, I knew I had to make a move. Dallas Clark and Brandon Stokley have become near non-factors and have been dumped. It broke my heart to part with Manning. While he's still a solid fantasy QB, he's no more so than Brady and the hottest QB in football right now Mark Brunell. With that in mind, knowing there was no need to have 3 QB's that had around the same scoring average week to week I targeted the team in my league that needed the most help at QB and went after his best running back: McGahee. To make sure he's still have some depth at RB I threw in Taylor who was rotting on my bench anyway and is probably heading towards a season-ending injury himself knowing how he is.
So here will be my usual starting lineup barring bye weeks, injuries, or bad matchups:
QB - Brunell
RB - McGahee
RB - Barber
RB - Bell
WR - Harrison
WR - Fitzgerald
TE - Gates
K - Kasay
D - Bears
I like it
