Another Day in Metropolis

Sep 28, 2007 14:51

Clark walks out of the bathroom...the sitter had taken Jon for a walk, and Lois was still sleeping in the bedroom.

When he walks out of the bathroom, and sees the smoke in the sky.

Tracing the shaft, it leads down to the general vicinity of Stryker's Island.

Three seconds later...faster than a speeding bullet...he's in uniform and en route.

wonder woman, superman

Strykers Island Penitentiary is one of several in the country that are designed to incarcerate perpetrators of metahuman crime. What sets this prison apart is the level of security measures needed...people who would commit crime in Metropolis are, in fact, a special breed.

The island is surrounded by water, guards are armed with state of the art weaponry, and the walls are designed to withstand the wear and tear caused by metahumans. It's very, very hard to get in without having resistance.

Which makes it all the more disconcerting when a loud "BOOM" is heard in the maximum security block.

The guards in the vicinity were dropped in a matter of seconds, as much from the element of surprise as from the sheer power of the assailants. Five women, designed to be a deadly fighting force from a world beyond our own.

"Cells aren't marked, Lashina." The one with a bow remarks. "Might take a few to find her."

"Maybe we should start kicking down doors until we do." The heavyset one retorts. To the side an officer groans.

"Maybe we should start kicking down doors until we do." The heavyset one retorts. To the side an officer groans.

"No, we'll be polite to the lowlies. We'll ask." The tall, statuesque assasin known as Lashina flicks her wrist, and immediately her strap whips itself tightly around the guard. Another flick, and he's pulled at top speed towards her. "Where is the traitorous piece of offal you call Knockout?"

The guard is so terrified that no words come out when he talks.

"Tell me, worm, or I'll feed you to Harriet. It's been awhile since she's been given a mouse to play with."

The inhuman cackling of the woman in green behind her shakes the guard down to his spine.

"Wuh...wuh...one floor down..." he manages to spurt out.

A backhand punch from Lashina dislocates his jaw and knocks him unconscious. "Stompa, get us out of here."

The heavyset woman in yellow known as Stompa kicks at the door, which despite being solid steel flies outward with the force of her kick. "Bernadeth, Artemiz, take point."

They walk and find stairs downward (and several other guards, whom they easily dispose of along the way), and another door that is shattered from the force of Stompa's kick. There's roughly 50 cells, each sealed off with a foot-thick steel alloy. "Find her." Lashina says. "We need to finish this before the Kryptonian..."

"I'd say you're too late."

They look up to find the Man of Steel hovering above them.

"Don't look surprised. Once I saw you, I figured out who you might be here for. And you're not the only peole with teleport technology. Now, you might want to flick on that Boom Tube and return to Apokolips before I remember what I said I'd do to you the next time Darkseid sent an attack force to Earth."

"Well, they say memory's the first thing to go, worm..." Lashina hisses before nodding to the team. "FOR DARKSEID!"

Artemis immediately lets loose with multiple arrows...each tipped with a very familiar green stone at its head.

Superman knows Artemiz's arrows - they're akin to heatseekers, once a bio-lock is established they will find their mark.

So a flash of heat vision insures that most won't make it.

One does, however, right into his left thigh, and he winces in pain.

As he opens his eyes from the flinch, he sees a mountain of yellow flying up to him.

Feet first.

It took all three of the other Furies to get her up there, but it was going to be SO worth it.

She's already the strongest of the Furies. The anti-matter boots that she wears give her the power to create earthquakes.

And to send Superman reeling. A double kick sends Superman spinning to the ground.

Harriet was already charging the fallen Man of Steel, power spikes digging into his skull. Lashina sent her whips around his legs and, electrical charge coursing through Superman, whips him backfirst into one of the cells, sending him through the door.

Mad Harriet's still attached.

Two seconds later, Mad Harriet flies OUT the door, at a rapid pace.

And Lashina is yanked forward by the strap...just as Superman flies OUT of the cell and unleashes a backhand that spins Lashina in midair.

He does not look happy. "Hard way it is, then."

Superman doesn't see the female form that makes it out the back door in the midst of the chaos.

The Furies may have a reputation for in-fighting, but in battle they work in concert.

Bernadeth and Artemiz attack Superman from a distance, with the flame from Bernadeth's Fahren-Knife and Artemiz's kryptonite-tipped arrows each finding their mark. They came prepared for facing Superman in his city and it shows.

Concurrently, Mad Harriet has found an arrow that missed and is now on top of Superman attempting to jam it into his eye. Her cackling would make the Joker cringe.

Meanwhile, Stompa kicks down three different doors before finding her target. The villain...and former Female Fury...known as Knockout who is, currently...knocked out.

That changes matters. Superman knew who their probable target was...he gets regular updates of the metas coming through Strykers so he knows what he might be up against in the event of a breakout...or a breakin.

So he needs to be slightly more ruthless. Which is hard, given that he has kryptonite embedded in his left leg and right arm at the moment.

With one gust, a stream of superbreath freezes Bernadeth in her tracks...leaving her stationary for the careening Mad Harriet that Superman throws at her at full velocity. The ice shatters on impact, leaving both New Goddesses crumpled and stunned on the floor.

In one motion, Superman's airborne, and one punch sends Artemiz and her arrows scattering throughout the floor.

Stompa, however is out of the cell, and Lashina has her hands on a Mega-Rod.

***BOOOOOOOMMMMM***

The gateway is open and Stompa is heading towards it. "MOVE IT, FURIES!"
