Caffeine headache

I've had a lack of internet activity these past few days, hence my rather scarce number of recent updates. I've got a few minutes while Becca is in the shower, before we leave for Indy (we're seeing *gasp* jimmy buffett), so I'll make this brief.

My job is getting better, I think, though it's still really boring. Everyone there keeps telling me how good a job I'm doing, even though I don't think it is humanly possible to do a bad job straightening products. God, that job makes me feel useless. Everyone is really nice to me there. I mentioned this to a coworker and she told me, "That's because all the night shift guys think you're really cute." Great. Though I think maybe they mean that in a "Wow, she's really small and looks young. She's cute like a kid." kind of way. Oh, but this really weird kid did hit on me. Two nights in a row. He's too dorky even for me, and I like dorky boys. But he's not dorky in the sense that he could tell you what he thinks was the very point at which the Roman Empire began to fall, or that he will correct the grammar of the singers over the in-store radio thingy (okay...so maybe I do both of those things, but doesn't everyone sort of want to date someone like herself?). He's dorky in the Dungeons and Dragons, builds computers for fun, smokes Clove cigarettes because he thinks it makes him look cooler, dies his hair black and still has an undercut kind of way. Oh, and his name is Andre. Who the hell is named Andre? Oh well...he's nice, and I don't mind talking to him, I just wish he'd get the picture that he's not my type.

I recently read High Fidelity. I enjoyed the movie, and I'd heard the book was better, so I bought it awhile ago, but never got around to reading it. Well I picked it up a few days ago and didn't put it down for 180 pages. I picked it back up the next day and finished it. It was really good. I highly recommend it. The only problem is that it's way way better than the movie, and it made me see how many liberties the screenwriter took with the story. God, I don't think I could watch the movie again. Maybe just to see John Cusack, but maybe not even then. Everyone had always said they like the movie because it's a realistic look at love, and all that, and when I told them I thought the main point of the movie was realizing that who a person is consists of more than just what he listens to, they said no way. I remember Gerritt even telling me he didn't like the movie because it was about pathetic middle-aged elitist record shop owners, and he hates people like that. I always thought that was the point. Rob is so pathetically obsessed with things that don't matter, and his breakup with Laura helps him to realize that those things don't really matter in the long run. Well, the book actually is about that. I think the movie is, too, but I haven't found anyone who agrees. The book actually states at one point that what a person is like is more important than what a person likes, and it's kind of at a turning point in the plot. Anyway, it had good anecdotes, and it's a really fast read. If you're looking for a book, I'd recommend it. Just be prepared to like it a lot more than the movie.

That's all. Going to Indy now.
Ta ta.
