Knit Ponderings

Ron requested a neckwarmer/tube-scarf/cowl to wear for cool-weather motorcycling.  This is an application where lace would be Right Out, or I know what I'd do.  I've poked around on-line to see what's available for patterns, and they seem to boil down to one of two options:

1. Knit wide strip.  Graft ends or work buttonholes in one end and put buttons on the other.
2.  Knit a tube, usually in something rib-ish.

I don't do grafting if I can possibly avoid it, and I don't think Ron wants to mess with buttons in/under his motorcycle jacket or helmet, so there's all the #1 variants out.

Both often feature pictures of the resulting on a wearer's neck, only.   Which leads me to a hint for the pattern designers: If I can't figure out what your thing looks like, I'm unlikely to use your pattern.  No, not even if it is free.

Chunky yarns seem to also dominate the free choices.  I was thinking worsted, or sport, but not chunky.

I have a couple books of stitch patterns, including the "Knit and Purl" and "Cables & Arans" Harmony Guides from Interweave.

Therefore, I'll just figure out my own.
