Thursday night I didn't go to Capricon, but Ron picked up the MuseCon staff shirts from Off-World Designs, and I helped him sort them. Ron was quite bemused by seeing his name on the big icon-atom artwork on the back.
Friday morning I made two ginger-pumpkin cheesecakes, and almost forgot the pumpkin. Two cheesecakes is about a half-inch shy of being too much for the Kitchenaid. Note to self, put the sugars in on TOP of the cream cheese for creaming. The recipe is supposed to be for a 9" pan, I did a double batch in a 9" pan, a 10" pan, and a little baby one, about 4", for Robin, but they didn't look skimpy. Went to the hotel and hit a couple panels in the afternoon, went out to dinner with a couple people from GT, and then home.
Saturday was more hanging out in the GT suite, Ron went to a couple panels before I got there. We got checked in to the party suite at something like 2:30, so we had lots of setup time for the party.
drsulak covered most of the floor of the sitting room in sticky-down plastic (wonderful stuff!). The kids got to play in the bedroom side of the suite, which was overflow space, kid-space in the early part of the night, and registration.
Mr. Slushy ran the slushy machine,
drsulak did dry-ice and LN2 ice cream, and 8 cheesecakes, plus cheese and other non-sweet munchies kept the crowds fed. Reports are that many people appreciated the fact the party was non-alcoholic, and that the music was not a wall of noise. Some registrations were taken, and I think we achieved the main goal, which was good publicity.
The plan was to close the party at midnight, I think we thought things would be wound down at that point. HAH! I think we got a lull and the door got shut at about 1:30-2:00 AM. I know we didn't get to bed (yay for a hide-a-bed in the sitting room!) until 3 or sometime after. But by then a lot of the stuff was out and the rooms mostly picked up. I didn't hear about or see evidence of any spills, but I'm sure that without the plastic we'd have had a whopping great pink spot in the middle of the carpet.
I was awake by 7:00, so I was doing a fairly good zombie impression Sunday. More people chatted with at the sale table, then home. Dinner at Toreo. Lovely nummy broiled rare carne asada, aka meeeeeat. (I turn into a carnivore when tired). Then home and bed.
Yesterday Ron was a sore slug. I had a fit of . . . something, cleaned up my folding tables that serve as a desk, then started in on doing the books. Then Otter's tax returns. Then our tax returns. Then I made dinner. And did dishes. I'm not sure who or what took over my body, it was very strange . . .
