Tossing is exactly what it sounds like - tossing the camera while the shutter is open in order to capture unique and abstract images.
You will need:
- a camera or cameraphone (one that preferably has a strap)
- film (if using a print camera)
Do:
- Make sure the camera strap is secure.
- Set the camera to a slow shutter speed, using a low ISO to avoid noise, unless you want noise.
- Try different aperture settings for varied effects.
- Toss the camera so it rotates freely.
- Experiment with different angles, heights, and speeds.
- While the camera is in the air, use a remote shutter release to capture images.
- Try different timings for pressing the shutter to get various compositions.
Notes:
- Practice tossing or swinging the camera before you start shooting.
- Instead of tossing, swing the camera by its secure strap.
- Choose a place to work that has a lot of space and no obstacles, and something with softer ground or grass just in case you drop the camera.
- Regularly check the camera for damage in case you drop it.
