This is a soundtrack for my college AU. Later (as in, probably, days to weeks later), there will be another installment in this universe, about Mike. But for now, we have music.

It is divided into two parts: general story songs, and character songs. The general story songs are pretty much chosen for their sound; I wasn't that concerned with lyrics at all. I consider it to be a happy soundtrack. It is pretty pointless. Mostly I like music. That's how I roll.

James Wendt - Scooters
Tiny cars and tiny streets are hanging from my feet / I'm so high / Don't wanna come back down / Tra la la la la
This is an English song written by a Swedish guy from the soundtrack of a Japanese movie. This is possibly why it is a little incoherent. It's an opening song for me, because that's how it was used in Honey and Clover, and how I first heard it. It's just kind of...whimsical. I don't know. This is going to be the worst commentary ever, as a warning.

Green Day - Time of Your Life
I don't even care enough to get lyrics for this one. This is, I believe, the only song that gets namechecked in the fic. I find this both sad and hilarious. Good times.

Various Artists - My Back Pages
Ah, but I was so much older then, / I'm younger than that now.
This song is by Bob Dylan. This is possibly why it is a little incoherent. The lyrics, in fact, have nothing to do with anything in this fic. But when I was, I don't know, eight or so, my parents and my mom's best friend and me and my brother and my mom's friend's kids had a dance party to this song, and we were so loud, our neighbors called the police. This also has nothing to do with anything in this fic. But when I think of ROCKIN' GOOD TIMES songs, I think of this. Just appreciate the many upbeat singers and the complete batshitness of the lyrics. Like, for serious. I think it is about how Bob Dylan hates education. My dad had this theory that every other stanza makes sense, but I was never 100% on board with this. Please explain this song to me.

Paul and Storm - Your Love Is (Love Song with Metaphor)
You are a giant redwood falling on a family of deer / You are a soaring eagle landing in a minefield / You are river rising over the downtown levees / You are Christmas in Iran
One Valentine's Day, Jared serenaded Jensen with this song.

The Postal Service - Such Great Heights
True, it may seem like a stretch, but / It's thoughts like this that catch my troubled / Head when you're away when I am missing you to death
I feel like it's a cliche to use this song, but at the same time, I don't care. It's upbeat and all about being in love, and that is what I'm about. And what these songs are about. With the exception of "My Back Pages," which is about Bob Dylan being crazy. Close enough!

Character songs:

Jared Padalecki/I'm Ready to Update My Facebook Relationship Status If You Are: We The Kings - Check Yes, Juliet
Check yes, Juliet, I'll be waiting / Wishing, wanting, yours for the taking
I assume Jensen doesn't appreciate being the girl in this scenario, but I like the sound of the song for Jared--he's pretty much on board for hooking up with Jensen and doesn't so much care about, well, anyone else's opinions on anything. Jensen's possibly included.

Tom Welling/You're Cantankerous, Inappropriate, Self-Destructive, and Hopefully Single: Hello Saferide - My Best Friend
Damn! I wish I was a lesbian / Damn! I wish I was, and that you were, too / So I could fall in love with you
By contrast, I don't feel even feel a little bad giving Tom a song about how awesome it is having a best friend who is a girl and who gets you. And I think probably both Tom and Mike wish they were lesbians. So it's okay.

Chad Michael Murray/My Condolences on Losing Your Balls: Ben Folds - Rock This Bitch
I'm gonna rock it like no bitch has ever been rocked before
This is not a real song, much like Chad Michael Murray is not a real person.

Michael Rosenbaum/I'm Still Your Friend Even Though You Dumped One of Mine: The Format - Dog Problems
I've got nothing, you should see me / I smoke myself to sleep
My friend hydrophobia posted this song on her LJ and described it as a parade, which I agree with. It's not spot-on lyrically for Mike all the time, but I like the feel of it--this is true of basically every song I pick here. Anyway! The Format is kind of my go-to band for this verse because even when they're being sad, they're end up being mostly upbeat and happy, which is what I am about.

Jensen Ackles/I Can't Believe How Much I'm Not Sick of You: The Format - Inches and Falling
Just sing / Sing / I love love / I love being in love / I don't care what it does to me
Speaking of! I consider those lines to basically be what Jensen learns through this story. Which, uh, sounds really pretentious as I type it! Like, I did not have a zomg message coming in or anything. But no matter how it ended up with POVs, multiple characters, etc, I still consider this verse to be Jensen's story, and him getting from the "uhhhhh wait what feelings wtf??" stage to the "Yeah, I kind of want to be with this loser forever" stage. Which is why "I Can't Believe How Much I'm Not Sick of You" will always be the end of the story for me. That got kind of long and weird. Whatever, FUCK YEAH THE FORMAT.
