Lobbyists

Aaah, I see. But I don't think I would make a good lobbyist. I would probably wind up getting short with a congresscritter who was being intractable and then it'd be all over. Although I imagine patience is something I could develop, I couldn't imagine actually enjoying that job, no matter how important I think it is.

Fortunately, there's no shortage of jobs for lawyers who are into tech. It's been made abundantly clear that all I need to do is graduate and learn to write and firms around town will be battling over me when I'm done. For patent law (which requires the tech undergrad) the salary figures I've heard dropped are about twice what I was making in tech.

I'm a little worried about getting sucked into patent law exclusively. I'm not sure how I feel about that, but it'd be hard to work a mix. I'd love to just work with startups all the time. The prof I heard talk today mostly worked with them, I think. It'd be fantastic to get hooked up with some VCs. There are a lot of interesting legal issues that fledgling tech (intellectual property) companies face.

I also have been thinking about international intellectual property law. There's a lot going on with treaty work and business in transnational production and distribution. The global rebalancing is going on slowly, but it's fascinating to watch.
