Character's Name: Reno

What form will your character's NV take? Similar to a Blackberry PHS. While touchscreen PHS’s are OMG PRETTY AND FUN AND PRETTY, they’re terrible for any practical use in the field. So, Blackberry PHS it is!
Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities:
Without any special abilities Reno is an extremely capable fighter in both hand to hand and with the use of his EMR or a pistol. The EMR, or Electro-Magnetic Rod is a retractable Night Stick which can be used to simply club people or can tazer them and potentially paralyze them. He much prefers the use of his EMR to his pistol, however he is competent with it. He is also extremely nimble, boasting to be the fastest of the Turks in hand to hand and in distance coverage. He is also an extremely good climber, able to scale buildings in a matter of seconds. On top of this he is a skilled mechanic and is well versed in the operation and driving/piloting of helicopters, motorcycles and cars. He can also access magic with materia, however without them his magic is completely useless.
Since he has gone through Turk training Reno is also an extremely observant individual, able to read practically any situation and evaluate all outcomes in a matter of seconds and utilize the best method; this does not necessarily mean he always makes the right choice though. This also applies to people: he can tell if someone is lying or not much more accurately than the average person. He's also a great liar himself and a great actor, able to milk both his friends and enemies for everything they're worth. He also has a much higher pain resistance level than most externally and a fast detox system. He is also resilient to any lightning based attacks.
He also has two attacks which do not appear to be materia based. 'Pyramid' encases an enemy in a sort of crystal/electrical cage and said enemy is unable to attack, although on the flipside they cannot be targeted. 'Turk Light' shoots a ball of electrical energy from the tip of his EMR at the enemy and it will often leave the opponent dazed and confused. It is still possible that these attacks are materia based, or that these are some of his limit breaks, or simply attacks given to him as a boss thanks to game mechanics. If you feel either or both of these abilities would count as a superhuman canon ability I am willing to discuss over AIM how to handle them. If you would also like I do have stats for this character.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them?
His ability will be Spatial Manipulation, AKA teleportation. He can teleport to a maximum of 200 meters, and he can teleport objects and people with him as well. He can teleport small objects (less than 75 pounds) by touching them and not requiring teleporting himself, and he can teleport objects into others, displacing the formation of the original object. He can also teleport one person with him, however more than that and the strain will cause him to pass out mid-teleport and the spatial transference will stop. His ability requires a lot of concentration to use, and after a while it can become draining to him. So, if there is a serious distraction or if he is using very powerful magic at the time he cannot teleport. With time he may learn to, but not for a long while. Also, the more occupied he is the less he can use his ability, so when using weaker magic or when focussing on a fight the distance and weight of objects he can teleport is roughly cut in half. Like I said above totally understanding if his above abilities count towards his ability quota, wasn't sure if his counted or not ^^;;

Character History:
(All written history is headcanon due to the fact that Reno’s childhood and backstory is never discussed or revealed in canon. I hope that’s OK. If you have any questions about it feel free to contact me!)
Reno was born in a small fishing village called Lamaline on a peninsula on the Northern Continent, barely a blip on the map and home to at most 350 people. His father was a fisherman and his mother was a seamstress, both loving parents to him and his older brother Uriah. At the age of 3 his father was killed at sea in a storm and his mother was left to take care of Reno and Uriah. Uriah longed to be a part of ShinRa’s elite, and trained long and hard in the way of the sword to be able to one day join the ShinRa armys ranks or even better, become a Turk. 7 years later their mother became very sick and required expensive medicine to help keep her alive, and due to the global pollution the ShinRa company had begun to create there was very little money to be made in the fishing business and most of the people who lived in Lamaline had left, looking for work and to start a new life in Midgar. Uriah, now 16, joined them to look for work in Midgar to try and pay for her medicine, and Reno was left to take care of her in the meanwhile as she was too sick to move so far away. Reno did everything he could to take care of his mother and did whatever he could do around the town in order to earn money. Uriah in the meanwhile in Midgar got involved in drug and material smuggling to earn money, and was eventually recruited by the Turks for his determination and skills after he beat one of the Turks in a fight. He was finally able to fully afford the medication their mother needed, but it was too little too late and within the year she died.
While Uriah was unable to convince Veld, leader of the Turks, to allow him to take his younger brother into his care he was at least able to get Reno into the ShinRa’s Orphan Program so that he could be closer to his older brother. Life within the orphan program was hard, and the only reason Reno didn’t run away from it was because he didn’t want to let his brother down, and because really he had nowhere else to go. There was some reprieve though as he met his best friend and future partner Rude through the program. 2 years after moving to Midgar his brother was killed in a mission, and Reno was completely torn. He very nearly ran from ShinRa and from everything, just to find somewhere to hide away and live the rest of his life, but Rude brought him back to his senses (well, punched him back to his senses) and convinced him that he had to continue down the road he was on and that he couldn’t let all of Uriah’s hard work go to waste. Snapped out of his depression Reno was more determined than ever to prove himself and make his brother proud and carry on his dream as a Turk.
Finally, 4 years later at the age of 17 he was brought into the ranks of the Turks

1 2 Point in Canon:
1 week after Meteor appears. After Cloud handed over the Black Materia to Sephiroth he summons Meteor from the sky, the planet's WEAPONS are released, Cloud falls into the lifestream and AVALANCHE becomes ShinRa’s prisoners. A week later the terrorists are put to execution to help calm the people of Gaia and give ShinRa a scapegoat, however due to Saphire WEAPON’s attack on Junon they are able to escape and steal the Highwind. At the current time ShinRa has created a plan to use the Rocket 29 as a missile loaded with Huge Materia to destroy the Meteor, and are mobilizing to gather the Huge Materia from the Corel Reactor.
Character Personality:
First and foremost Reno is simply an ass, no questions asked. He teases, he insults, he pulls pranks and does almost anything in his capacity to make a nuisance of himself. Half the time it's simply because he's bored and half the time he means it. As soon as he finds a button to push he will push it over and over and over again until he’s either bored of it or he’s learned his lesson…though both tend to take a while. He’s also quite proud at times, and while he’s not always proud of what he’s done he does take pride in himself and his work. He may act like a lazy ass and complain about work and assignments but at the end of the day the job is always done and it’s done well. He also sees crying or showing pain as a huge sign of weakness and inability to control oneself, and therefore refuses to show either to both friends and enemies, hating to have himself seen as weak. He also looks down upon those who do, seeing them as weak.
This is not to say, however, that he is a dreadful terrible horrible person, he’s just a bit of an ass and just wants to do his job and pay the rent, and at his core he’s actually not a bad guy …if you have earned his friendship and respect that is. To those that he’s close to he is loyal to a fault and will do almost anything in his power to ensure their wellbeing; while a dead Turk is a failed Turk he would much rather be a failed Turk than a failed friend or comrade. He also genuinely cares about those he’s close to and hates to see them truly upset, and while he may have some tough love methods his intention and usually result is always for the wellbeing of his friend. He also tends to look out for those weaker than him if it won’t get in the way of his job, especially kids and rookie Turks. He doesn’t let himself trust or get attached easily though, having seen too many friends fall and having lost too many rookies in his time. Someone will only be worth his time if he knows they can pull through any situation, are just as strong an resilient as him, and will last through anything.
Don’t get the wrong idea though, I’m not trying to say he’s actually a good person and he’s just a little misguided, because that is not the case. Everyone who doesn’t know him on a personal level views him as a sick and twisted little bastard and for good reason: it’s because he is. This guy will kill without a second thought, and not just one person but thousands of people if ShinRa wills it, and at the end of the day he’ll go home and have a beer without a second thought. While he doesn’t always agree with ShinRa’s methods or plans if he’s given a job he intends to do it as long as he’s on the payroll, no matter what that job entails. Yes, even kidnapping little kids or defenceless young women. He may not be trying to destroy the world and fuse himself with the planets consciousness, but the man is insane all the same.
Character Plans:
I have no real plans for him other to roleplay with everyone else in the comm and get some awesome CR for the character. Getting him into some fights and having him kicking some ass and taking some names will be fun too, but I’m really here for the CR. I know the character will constantly try to find a way home, but I’m pretty sure he’ll realise eventually theres nothing he can do for it. We’ll see what happens, hopefully he’ll make some friends and most deffinately he’ll make some enemies.

First Person Sample
OK, the shit is this? The fuck did I do last night? ...Well, day I guess, or something... fuck I feel like shit. Hey, Rude? Buddy? I’m gonna need a lift back to Junon man, ended up in Midgar somehow. Looks like they might be saving Mako reserves for the canon, it’s pitch black here. They haven't even moved the canon yet and already they're starting that shit? Bet you anything everyone's still paying out the ass though.
[A low growl can be heard, one at first then several as monsters begin to surround him.]
...Soon would be nice? These monsters don’t look normal...probably escaped from the labs again.
[A screech and jump from a monster can be heard as teeth meets metal, and Reno can be heard struggling to force the creature off.]
Make that very soon!

If Reno had been some kind of fancy artist, he might have contemplated how something that could cause so much fear and destruction could look so beautiful; then he probably would have started writing poetry or music, or maybe would have started some abstract painting meant to convey how humanity deserved its current fate. The good thing was that he wasn’t -that was always more Cissnei’s line of thinking- but he couldn’t deny there was some chilling irony about how the massive rock hovering over their planet, about to crush everything he knew, was incredibly… Not beautiful… Oh, what did it matter what exact word was used, it looked cool. End of story.
He lit up a smoke, inhaling and exhaling a rush of nicotine as he stared up at the sky, expecting to see the impending destruction of the planet which had shown itself a week prior. It was funny, how after only 7 days he was already so used to seeing that meteor hanging over them, and yet after 5 in Siren’s Port it still startled him that he couldn’t see the burning rock looming. Everyone back home knew Sephiroth was the cause, what they didn’t know was that ShinRa wasn't lying about AVALANCHE being the culprits. For once their scapegoat was the real deal.
Well, in a roundabout way it was ShinRa’s fault, but he wasn’t about to pick at details.
Cloud Strife. He should have killed the douche bag while he’d had the chance. Maybe then the planet wouldn’t be in its current predicament, the end of the world approaching and lurking over them. He might not have been there, but he’d heard what happened, how the spiky haired idiot had handed the Black Materia over to Sephiroth. Might not have been his fault, and Hojo was really to blame, but circumstances happened, life sucked, and Cloud was just the unfortunate soul to get fucked by the sharp end of the stick this time. Fact of the matter was Cloud was to blame and Reno felt like a complete and total failure for allowing Cloud to go free in Wutai and not killing him on the spot while he had no materia to fight back with. Of course they didn’t know of Sephiroth’s plans then, but he wasn’t an idiot, he’d seen the files and knew what Cloud really was. It was inevitable that he became a pawn in the grand scheme. With Cloud dead the world would be suffering much less grief. And here he was, stuck in Siren’s Port, expected to work for some fucking company called SERO rather than be out there in the field and hunt down the bastard for the only company he actually gave a shit about. ShinRa was his home, his life, his family. They gave him a chance at a life when he could have ended up being nothing, there was no way he could ever turn his back again.
But, even he had been questioning ShinRa as of late. The plans ShinRa had come up with so far were pretty farfetched, as much as he hated to admit it, and to be honest he wasn’t sure at that point if the company was really what the world needed. He knew ShinRa was draining the planet dry of life and frankly he didn’t care since it really wasn’t going to affect him in this life; but he was very much conscious of the fact that such actions also had a role to play in their current predicament. Maybe it was time to give someone else the reins, see what they could do? He had faith in ShinRa, but couldn’t deny that they were starting to take everything to a whole new level. After Zirconiade he had started to question the company’s dealings, specifically after trying to assassinate his family, the Turks which had just saved the world from complete destruction. Shouldn’t they have been looked upon as heroes rather than traitors? And ever since then everything had escalated, from dropping the plate on Sector 7 to kidnapping a four year old girl… the company wasn’t what it used to be. Could they really keep depending on a bunch of executives who’d lost it over their thirst for power?
The undying faith he had in the company that had given him so much, given him a life... it was starting to crack under the pressure; it was obvious that a backup plan was needed, and while Heidegger and Scarlet had several, Reno was fairly certain most of them would end the same way all their weapons did, blowing up in their faces. They needed something new, something different, and that’s when his thoughts trailed to blonde spikes again.
Other than Elfe, Cloud was the only person alive to ever give Sephiroth a run for his money, and Elfe really was in no shape to even think of trying such a feat. Blowing up Meteor was nice and all, but if they really wanted to get rid of the threat to Gaia they’d have to get rid of the source, A.K.A. the silver haired mofo himself. He hated to admit it, but Cloud was probably the only hope they would ever have of defeating Sephiroth. Cloud was their backup plan.
…And their backup plan had gotten himself tossed into a sea of Mako. Fucking wonderful, wasn't it?
However, for some reason, somewhere along the line he had started to respect Cloud, and now that respect was turning into faith. He had faith he was still alive somewhere, that he’d snap out of whatever Mako poisoning he’d undergone and maybe, just maybe, he’d save them all. Sure, he was probably going to be a brat and try and stop every one of ShinRa’s plans in the meantime, but Reno found that for once he was going to directly violate orders. As far as he was concerned his orders to kill Cloud had now become null and void. He was not killing the kid, and if he ever found a way out of this hell hole he was going to try and help him if he could find a way to do so without getting a target on his own head. Working with SERO was his best chance of getting out of this place wasn’t it? And hell, who knew, maybe with a little bit of digging he could maybe even find something to help them kill Sephiroth without Clouds help, but that was still only a maybe.
With a last drag of his cigarette he dropped it on the ground and crushed it with his boot, taking a breath of fresh salt air, a new resolve and spark alive within him. It felt exhilarating, knowing he was going to directly disobey his orders, a new rush of adrenaline with every step.
They needed that backup plan, and he was going to use everything in his power to keep him alive.
