But are you exploring or trying to find an escape route? This makes all the difference to the personalities a request like this will attract.

Both. If, in my explorations, I find an escape route, then that would be the best possible outcome. If not, then at least I know precisely what's out there.

[that's practically a snarl, there] I have no need of protection, and I consider the implication that I would an insult.

[And here's Moonie, happier for making someone as pissed off as she is, most days.]

The implication is the whole point.

[lookin' at her nails] I'll be coming along. May cooler heads prevail.

[he grinds his teeth and struggles to keep his voice from being just irritated enough to show that yes, she has gotten under his skin.]

[that gets his attention. rare few are those older than him ... ]

You're thousands of years old, then? Hardly a human?

Hardly? Don't insult me. I was never human and I never will be.

[Whoaaaa Moonie down girl. Unruffle those feathers. She subsides with a muttering of some crass ancient Germanic dialect.]

[oh, yes, he's very interested now.]

My apologies. I know what it's like to be insulted by that implication. If I can ask, what are you, then?

A [motherfucking] dragon. The mightiest of my brood.

[You see no ego here.]

And you? What claim do you have?

[somehow he manages to hold back a sharp hiss. dragon. his eternal meal. and he doesn't doubt her; nobody claims to be a dragon with that much pride. at least, no human would have the audacity.

it takes him a few seconds longer than it should to respond.]

We have a claim in common.

[because, by all rights, they do.]
