Been reading Mr Forster's book along with my typist.
A slow nature such as Maurice's appears insensitive, for it needs time even to feel. Its instinct is to assume that nothing either for good or evil has happened, and to resist the invader. Once gripped, it feels acutely, and its sensations of love are particularly profound. Given time, it can know and impart ecstacy; given time, it can sink to the heart of Hell.
Well, he spent a fair bit of time resisting this invader. As for knowing and imparting ecstacy, well...none of your business. [Typist's note: He's grinning broadly and swatting my wrist as I type this note.]
But he's not sinking to any heart of Hell while I'm around.
