I don't usually work Friday close shifts. But I did tonight. Good lord, it was insane. There was a much much higher ratio of people I had to turn away for lack or proof of age, and plenty of irritable pricks

I once got stuck behind a man (who was just barely 21) in a liquor store who decided to be $75 worth of beer and tequila, and then paid all in ones and quarters. So, I also thank those end of the night people, for not being jackasses and blocking the line!
Haha, yeah. I don't see the issue too much. I mean, we get $100 bills for $3.75 tickets, but we almost always have enough change around that it's just not a big deal.
Your cash handling policies make a lot more sense than ours do.
I understand the idea is to limit the take if we're robbed, but the floor safes are going to be opened by the manager anyway, so why aren't we allowed to use those to make change?
Agreed. Even when we DO drop money, or if we're just opening and low on funds, the management always has access to all the cash, and simply can go to the safe and make change. It's fairly simple.
At some point they're probably going to start using the same unsaid logic that our upper management i: "if the employees have access to the money, then they might STEAL it! Oh noes! The sky is falling!"

And being able to keep 20s in your registers must help.

And yeah, we keep all the bills in the drawer until a manager does a drop, which some nights, is not at all. That certainly helps.
