Well, a lot's happened in the last two weeks. I finally got an offer for my old iPod photo with the partly broken dock connector, and it turns out that I'll make more by breaking it down and selling it for parts than I would selling it as-is. The hard drive alone could fetch three times what I was offered for the unit ($30). So, in the end I broke down and popped the cherry of my nice new credit card. The one with the obscenely high (to me) $2,500 limit. Got a new 80GB, and Applecare on it. Had a bunch of fun fucking around trying to get it to sync with either the PC or the G4. No dice with either, until I tried the onboard USB 1.1 ports on the G4. Pain, they name is USB 1.1 file transfers. All my music synced fine, but it took something like 22 hours for it to do the update. Not something I look forward to having to do again... no can I explain the need for having to use the onboard older spec'd USB ports instead of the USB 2.0 card that that machine has. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Now though, it's all set up and working well. Battery lasts a good long time, and it works good and sounds good... and thus far, no hard freezes (like some people seem to be experiencing).
Some of you know my obsession with gadgety watches... I've had
this one for a while now, along with
this one, alone with an IR remote control watch. I've added both
this one and
this one to the lineup recently. The TV watch I've wanted to have ever since I was 5 years old... and I promised myself that I would get it if I could ever find one for under $100, and I recently was able to do that. The thing is very cool. Not terribly bulky (considering you're wearing a 1.5" LCD, tuner, and battery on your wrist) and oh-so-geek-chic.
An interesting story to tell you all... I was coming home from work on the morning of our most recent bullshit clusterfuck snowstorm, and some of the people who live in my building were trying to get their car out of the massive pile of snow, and failing. So, I popped the trunk and loaned them my snow shovel, with a knowing grin. Ultimately, it wasn't enough. So, I broke out the traction plates I bought last year. Those didn't work at first, either. A good hard kick fixed that, by settling them into place. Reverse nice and slow, and out the little jap car came. The wife/girlfriend/whatever of the guy driving it was quite grateful, thanking me profusely. I advised her to get at least one of those trunk-sized snow shovels, and went inside. Felt good about that for quite some time... that was definitely my good deed for the month of February.
In other random news... the next wave of ebay crap should be started by Monday. Tuesday at the worst. Any of you who want first crack at anything, let me know. Also, almost everything that doesn't sell is up for grabs free/cheap. I'm also finally making some headway on the lengthy to-do list. I finally bought a couple of small household things I've been putting off, and I took apart the NES and replaced the edge connector. I can now play console Tetris! Go me!
Finally got around to getting rid of the goddamn trash/recyclables/cans that had been piling up due primarily to the massive fucking snowstorms we've been having. I don't think anyone can really blame me for not wanting to slog through a foot-plus of snow to throw trash into the dumpster until it was really full.
Also, today I caved and got myself one of those nifty wire racks that we sell in hardware at work. Only $15, and it's perfect for what I had in mind: getting my saved liquor/wine bottles out of that plastic bin, and up on display. Some of those look quite nice, and it sure spruces up the kitchen.
I've got quite a pile of crap built up that I'm saving for people now, and I'd really like to get rid of it. I've got a drawer full of stuff for
pyrophin, a large pile of binders for
ak111,
prostudent42, or The Boy, whomever wants any/all of them is welcome to them. I want to get rid of that crap soon, if possible.
All right, that's enough rambling for now... time for sleep.
