meta: The Meeting With the Goddess: Journey to the Centre of the Tardis

May 04, 2013 11:02

In which the World Tree is blatant, the Tardis is a Goddess, Clara's lessons about Death continue, the Doctor is in denial, Clara is most certainly not an android and a million other very interesting things occur.

Secrets protect us. Secrets make us safe. )

This world tree stuff is fascinating. It does give my heart joy to see the world tree at the heart of the Tardis -- the way the tree is so overtly portrayed, with its fruit containing "Everything" -- AWESOME. :D I love that the Tardis is the Doctor's Wife.... In so many ways I would love for Clara to be the Doctor's Daughter, somehow the offspring of the Doctor and the Tardis... if the Tardis can create "Everything" can a daughter be one of those things? I keep coming back to her name... Clara - meaning of course, light, clarity, sight -- the aspect of the eye -- Oswin, meaning "Companion of God", and Oswald meaning "Rule of God." It's an incredibly loaded name -- but which god -- the Doctor, or the Tardis?? Clara might think that the Tardis doesn't "like" her, but maybe it's more of a mother-daughter thing ( ... )

Squee, thnak you for such a lovely and long comment!!!

I agree, i would totally adore for Clra to somehow be their daughter...the next best thing though? Clara as the daughter of 11 and River - the child of the Tardis. Ah well, a girl can dream! Could be the case though. the family connection - it's there in every ep. The River subtext, there in every ep. I think we're def moving towards some type of family-like connection between them.

If you're interested in a more more modern interpretation of the Monomyth that moves away from some of the sexist and genderbinary terms Campbell uses, i'd strongly recommend the book The Sacred Journey: Mythic Structure for Writers by Christopher Vogler. I refer back to Campbell a lot as peeps are more familiar with him and it's easy to ref the wiki article for people, but Vogler's book very much updates the use of the myth and the archetypes and stretches them further.

I also think there is something there with Clara's name being partly an anagram of CAL ---you just have to add Ra -- that big old ( ... )

Mind.Blown.Again.

(ETA: World Tree! In the TARDIS!)

The visuals in this episode were amazing. Not just the special places we saw within the TARDIS, but the color schemes, the positioning of things...the details!

Books and storytelling and myths and legends have been key features of the episodes so far. I love it.

(I love the fact that after the use of the BFB, with time supposedely reset, the Van Baalen family portrait was restored to include Tricky.)

So, did River write The History of the Time War?

The Doctor running from his name seems to mirror when he was, well, not running from, but delaying his arrival at Lake Silencio for the appointement that had to be kept. He also seems to be more frantic than ever before (though it'a hard to tell with Matt's portrayal!) and as you say, becoming more and more fractured.

However far he fell at Demon's Run, we may see him fall further and deeper by the time the season ends.

Hee! Thank you, glad you enjoyed!

I know, i thought the set design was totally spectacular.

History of the Time war...i suggested to a commentor above that maybe the Tree produces things other than machines, maybe the Doctor could have programmed the Tardis to produce the book. The only ones who could have are him, the Tardis - or Rive rif she is in some way released from the Library.

Agree with you about the Silencio mirror. He ran from his death, now in a way he's running from whatever he did in his life past. The man who can die/resurrect running from both life and death, which kind of fits my argument that regeneration is not true death and rebirth, and Clara is currently way ahead of him on her personal journey to accept mortality and rebirth.

Aw, thank you, that makes me so happy to hear if i makes you enjoy the show more. Yeah, i'm not into the negativity either, doing meta as a labour of love is my shield against it!
