best friends

What's the deal with best friends? (And no, this isn't the beginning of a joke). Seriously, what's up with them? Does anyone really have that one person that they share everything with, do everything with, and would sacrifice anything for? If you do, hold onto them and never let go. Because you are a very lucky person. I envy the person who has known their best friend since the day they were born. It's almost impossible to find that kind of friendship anymore. With all the crap that the world throws at friends these days, it's amazing that anyone still has a best friend. With there being a million different schools to go to, suddenly moving 2,000 miles away, or having misunderstandings go too far to where the friendship almost seists to exhist, it's no wonder people are so screwed up. Growing up without a best friend is no way to grow up.
I've never really nderstood the whole best friend thing. When you're 5, your best friend is the person that gives you half of that little plastic heart that says "Best Friends". When your 10, your best friend is the person who finds out if 'Johnny' really likes you. But when your 15, what is the definition of your best friend?
Another thing, are you allowed to have more than one best friend? Well, I guess you can, but that always makes thing awkward when you and your multiple best friends are all together at once. Especially if your best friends aren't best friends with your other best friends. It's a complicated thing.
The one thing that I'm sure of is that when you have a best friend, you should be able to make the ultimate sacrifice for them. I hope that, if it ever came to that, I would be brave enough and strong enough to make that sacrifice for my best friend.
