Trek

My friend came back for a week from college, and he came to visit me at work. We got to talking, and I brought up my plans to go to Ireland this May. I told him he should come (we've discussed it before), and he agreed. Unfortunately, he wouldn't be able to do to school. I don't want to go alone, and I think it'd be a great opportunity for both of us (he wants to go into film, and what better documentation can you do than that of trekking across the Emerald Isle?).

So, I changed my plans. Instead of next year, we're going to wait two more. That gives me more time to save. I only planned on going for three weeks before, but after waiting for two years, I plan on staying a lot longer. We've already begun creating a list of equipment we're going to need, as well as researching different routes we can take, places we can stay (the few times that we're not camping under the stars), weather, etc. I feel like a little kid who's spotted that coveted present he's always wanted at the top of the closet a few weeks before Christmas.

I guess it's not for everyone. I don't see why someone wouldn't want to spend weeks at a time sleeping underneath the sky (even if it's storming), spending the days walking across beautiful fields and hiking up hills and mountains, visiting small villages and exploring new cities. Irish women, castle ruins, gaelic culture, storms (it rains a lot there. A lot), Irish women, storms, Irish people in general, absolute freedom travelling where you want when you want to, storms, Irish women... what's not to love?

Well... except that it's still two years away.
