Brad, Rose, and I were on our way to Chuy’s to meet up with some of Brad’s family on Thursday when the Tahoe started whistling like a tea pot. Brad exited off of 183 and pulled into a gas station. By that time, steam was flowing from the hood. (Of course, I thought the car was on fire.) Luckily, Brad’s dad was already at the restaurant only a few exits down, and he came to pick us up. He called a wrecker and had them tow the Tahoe to the International Dealership that he owns (a definite perk).

We found out on Friday that the intake manifold had to be replaced, and something about a gasket. We only had to pay for parts, but it was still going to cost around $500-which we couldn’t spare. Brad decided that the only way we could manage this financially was if he worked on Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas. We spent the rest of Friday afternoon running errands and being depressed. I kept mumbling about how the Lord would provide, but I don’t think either one of us believed it at that point.

Rose was in the kitchen cooking dinner for us when we got home that night. She asked how our day went, and we let her have it. “Well,” she said, “there’s a card for you above the television.” It reads the following:

How can I thank you enough for having me in your home for a whole semester? Despite the terrible hurricane and its effects, I have been reminded time and time again that the Lord provides, ‘and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.’ (Romans 8:28) May the Lord bless you both tremendously, as you have blessed me.

Love, Rose

Enclosed was a check for $500.

We love you Rose, and we miss you already!
