Well folks... I’m getting braces on Tuesday--again. Back when I was young, I went through all kinds of orthodontia to correct my overbite and other problems, but I was a noncompliant patient. I didn’t wear my rubber bands, headgear, frankel, or bionator. I was told that I would have to have surgery for TMJ if I didn’t do what I was supposed to, but I always thought my orthodontist was bluffing.
For the last year (maybe less) my jaw has been killing me, and I’ve had tension headaches constantly. I’m grinding my teeth into oblivion, and I can’t stand the pain anymore. I thought it would be pretty simple albeit painful. An oral surgeon would break my jaw, and six weeks later that would be that. Alas, I have to endure twelve to fourteen more months of braces first, and invisalign isn’t an option. After that, I’ll still have surgery to look forward to.
Luckily, Dell will pick up some of the slack financially. I almost died when I found out that the orthodontist on our dental plan is my childhood orthodontist, Dr. Hodgkins. I'm sure he's getting a pretty good laugh out of this.
