Resolutions, Year's End, and more disparate ramblings

Dec 19, 2009 10:28

I'm not one for resolutions, but here are a few things I hope to improve upon/do in the coming year:

-- Read more for pleasure. I didn't really do much of that this year.

-- Be less selfish. Self-evident.

-- Learn to take a compliment. You'd think that'd be easy, wouldn't you?

3 simple things, really.

Everyone is doing their year end lists. As mentioned, I didn't really read much for pleasure this year, but here are my top 3 books of the year, in no particular order.

- Let The Right One In, by John Ajvide Lindqvist. (The best vampire novel since Fevre Dream).

- Cold to the Touch, by Simon Strantzas. (A marvellous collection).

- The Best Horror of the Year, Volume One, edited by Ellen Datlow. (Perhaps Datlow's most varied and literate horror offering).

I slept for 10 hours last night, yet, for reasons unknown, still feel exhausted.

We have a new garage door.

For the first time ever we are not having a home-cooked Christmas dinner. We are going out for dinner.

I'm one of those lazy, disorganized sods, so I haven't done Christmas cards this year. I used to do them, year's back. Did I mention I was lazy? At any rate, wishing all of you a happy, safe and festive holiday season.

Here's to a cracking 2010!
