A/N: Here in sunny England it is the 5th November and in honour of Bonfire Night my muse has come out to play...in the form of an American Musical? Yeah...Anyway I thought I'd write a Ryelsi drabble about fireworks and thought that the Fourth of July was appropriate rather than random fireworks or an English thing...anyway here we go...
"Remember, remember the Fifth of November
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I can think of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot."
It was the same every year. As the 4th July came around, Ryan and Sharpays parents would be busy planning a huge celebration for the night. Ryan loved the fuss made about the holiday; Sharpay just liked the fuss of a party. Fireworks, banners, flags and other decorations were all set in preparation for the big barbeque.
Ryan gave a small smile at the thought that this Fourth of July, it wouldn’t just be friends and acquaintances of their parents, no, in fact the whole Wildcat gang had been invited. Troy, Chad, Jason, Zeke, Kelsi, Gabriella, Taylor and Martha had all agreed to come along.
Eventually the day rolled along and the party got into full swing. The part that Ryan most enjoyed though was when it began to grow dark. He had always loved to sit and watch fireworks, ever since he was young and this year would be no different. People stood in small groups, huddled up to watch. The gang all stood together apart from one, Ryan had wandered off alone. It was Kelsi who noticed that the choreographer was missing but everyone else seemed too entranced by the flashes of colour soaring across the sky to realise.
The composer went off in search of the blond boy. It only took her a few minutes until she spotted a dark shape on the side of a hill, wearing an unmistakable fedora. She smiled and silently went to sit by him. Minutes passed as she watched him watching the fireworks. Speaking softly, she hesitantly broke the silence.
“So, how come you’re all the way over here on your own?”
Silence followed and Kelsi began to wonder if she should have said anything. She began to rise to leave Ryan on his own again when he spoke out quietly.
“I come here every Fourth of July. I find it peaceful, just to sit here and watch the fireworks and just be reminded of what we are celebrating.” He turned to look at Kelsi’s standing figure. “My parents often get so caught up in the whole party and glamour thing that the real meaning for it is forgotten.”
Kelsi returned to his side. “Wow, I think it’s great that you take that time Ryan, most people seem to forget the real meaning of Independence Day and it’s nice to think about that momentous day.” She shuffled nervously about on her feet. “Mind if we get reminded together?”
The choreographer smiled and took the composers hand, pulling her down to sit back beside him.
“Not at all,” he whispered gently.
They sat there simply watching the colourful displays of Red, White and Blue sparks across the sky and simply remembering the day that America found it’s independence from Great Britain.
Kelsi’s head slowly found its way onto Ryan’s shoulder as they gazed upwards, her own simple hat falling to the ground between them. The blond dancer simply pressed a soft kiss to the brown curls and muttered, “Happy Fourth of July Kelsi Neilson!”
