I need to stop watching air crash documentaries as soothing background noise the week before two transatlantic trans-continental flights. It's a bad idea.
The night before flying home from Reykjavik, one of the TV channels we had access to in our holiday apartment showed a documentary about the Kegworth disaster. We watched it. Not the best plan in the world.

Enjoy sleep! I'm really glad you had a good time at the conference; you always make them sound so great.

Possibly this is one of the documentaries I am watching? (Still watching, I dunno what's wrong with me.) It's a Canadian series called Mayday that produces six immaculately-researched plane crash documentaries a year. Shim is finding this new habit of mine quite alarming.

I had a lovely time! Are you going to come to Nine Worlds this year (she asks, predictably)??

Ah, the series I was watching is an American one called Seconds From Disaster. In Reykjavik I watched the episodes about Kaprun, Kegworth and King's Cross. I learnt all sort of useful survival tips (if in a sloping tunnel that is on fire, go downhill, not up, or the rising heat and smoke will kill you; the wing is the strongest part of a plane structurally, so you're less likely to die on impact, but get out as fast as you can afterwards in case the engines are on fire; even if you think a fire is contained, get as far away from it as possible in case a previously-unknown property of the fire will lead to a massive fireball). Rob is similarly alarmed by my habit, and frequently has to beg me to stop talking about horrible disasters.

I hadn't thought about it, actually - maybe I should! It does sound like great fun, but I think part of me can't quite shake the belief that I am not cool enough for cons and will be turned away at the door.

You are the MOST DELIGHTFUL PERSON and I could not adore you more--you, with your incredible eloquence even when jet-lagged! I will never again drink spiced rum without thinking of your description of it! I will also never again drink spiced rum without remembering your face upon first sampling it! ♥--and I am so so incredibly glad and grateful that you came all this way just to spend three days with us. I am sitting here with this comment box open trying to think of ANYTHING I can say that would remotely sum up how lovely it was to finally meet you, but all I can think of is that you are awesome like Amy Poehler's face and everything you said and did made me happy (except for the leaving part), and I am very very sorry that you're so far away but very very glad that you're home safe and sound!

Soooo, sic semper tyrannis. BASICALLY. <3333333333333333333333

Brynn, your perfect face, everything you just said is totally mutual. <3 <3 Thank you again for your many many kindnesses! I had such a wonderful time hanging out with you guys, it was totally worth the journey and the jet-lag and everything. I have watching Adam Scott shooting Abraham Lincoln maybe a dozen more times and it NEVER STOPS BEING FUNNY. Aaaaaah. So many hearts for you.
