Hat and Glasses, two well kept parakeets were sitting in their cage. "Glasses," Hat said, "do I smell?"
Glasses sniffed his best friend. "I don't think so, we smell just about the same."
"I was afraid of that,"said Hat. "I think we need a bath."
"We don't have a bathtub!" Glasses cried searching frantically around their little cage.
"We'll go find one." And with that, the two birds flapped their little wings and went in search of a bathtub.
"Here's that Bathroom thing the humans are always talking about," Glasses said landing on the cold, ceramic tile.
"I think that's where they get their baths." Hat pointed his wing at the large shower stall lumbering above them.
"That's too big. What about this?"
"What are you talking about?" Hat asked looking around.
"That!" Glasses pointed at a large porcelain bowl standing in front of them.
"Does it have water in it?"
Glasses flew up a little bit and landed on the edge of the bowl. "We're in luck! It's FILLED with water."
Hat flapped his little wings and landed beside Glasses, "I don't know, Glasses, it looks a little dangerous."
"How?" He chuckled and jumped down into the water. "It's just water."
Hat watched as his little buddy splashed around in the water. "It doesn't look so bad," he thought to himself. Hat wanted a better view. He looked around and saw a little silver ledge poking out from the top of the bowl. Hat jumped up on it, but as soon as all his weight landed on it, the lever was pushed down.
SWOOSH! The water in the bowl began to swish around. "HELP!" Screamed Glasses. He flapped his wings fiercely against the whirlpool. "Help!" he screamed again.
Hat looked around frantically for something to throw to his little buddy. Toilet cleaner? Too heavy. Could he puff out his chest, dive to the bottom and clog the toilet? Probably not.
"That ream of durable paper!" Hat yelled as he flew to the soft, yet thick paper. Hat took up the end in his beak, aimed it into the bowl, and began running and letting down more paper.
Glasses, who was becoming dizzy from the twirling, grabbed the paper in his mouth and began to pull himself out. The undercurrent was strong, but Glasses held on and finally made it back to the edge of the bowl.
"Glasses! Are you ok?"
Glasses choked and gasped for air, but lifted a wing as to say "I'm OK."
The two of them sat there, waiting for Glasses to recover, and then decided to fly back to their cage.
They sat on their little perch and Glasses turned to Hat, "I think I'm clean enough to go without a bath for awhile," He said.
"I don't think we'll ever have to take a bath again, I can stand the smell."
And the two birds sat in silence for the rest of the night.
