Since reading
blindingxlights lj entry about dancing, I've got all nostalgic about my dancing, and I feel the need for a post about the love of dancing and ice skating.
A lot of people think that because I quit dancing/ice skating, I didn't love them anymore. I did! I loved them to pieces, dancing had been a part of my life since I was 3!! I'm talking like 3 or 4 times a week, for 2 or 3 hours, and that was like every week. Then there'd be the 3 months round the shows (2 or 3 a year), where I'd be practically living at dancing, at my first dancing school - it was so strict. My second one was less so, but definitely more fun!
& Ice skating, was what I'd always wanted to do, from being a little girl. Due to my crappy circulation, I couldn't do it till I was 12 :-( But still, 4 years of fun! :-)
Trouble is, it did take over my life, and so I did get bored. With both. Trying to pass exams, or have any time for just... breathing, is hard when you're doing: - Drama lessons once a week, Friday nights of helping at Rainbows and Brownies, and then going to Guides... Dancing lessons 3 times a week plus, Horseriding once a week, Ice skating 3 times a week, Clarinet lesson once a week, keyboard lesson once a week...
I didn't have time to... do anything lol! They all went... pretty much one after another, throughout year 11. I could have coped with a couple of them... but I dropped everything except Ice Skating once a week. That got dropped in sixth form, as I wasn't getting anywhere with it and I wanted my saturday morning lie in.
That's the trouble. I wanted to do Ice Skating, like forever. I didn't want it as a hobby. But it wasn't gonna happen - I was a crap spinner and jumper, the only thing I was good at was figure skating, and I was too old to do it anyway... And I was never gonna be supple enough to be a dancer - and those things just irritated me I guess! But I still loved them...
Anyway... enough moaning. The point is, I quite clearly cannot live without my beloved Ice Skating / Dancing, since I have found the need to re-start dancing. Doing totally different stuff this time though. From the age of 3-16, I did... Ballet, Tap, Modern, Acro, Jazz, Pointe Work :-) Now I'm doing Latin, Salsa and Ballroom - which so far means I've learnt (only been going 2 months bear in mind!) basic salsa, waltz, foxtrot, quickstep, square tango, rock and roll, cha cha & samba. And I love it to pieces!
The pointe of this entry was a bit of nostalgia anyway, so piccieeeeeeees!
Ice Skating...
Ice skating - very blurry pic but this was us doing a wheel! Scuse the hideous blue fleece, but its cold on the ice to start with and that was our ice twirlers fleece :P I'm the blue on the right
Spot me here ;-) prize for whoever can!
