004-[Action(before the dreams)] Ask you will and ask you may, the fate of love on this fair day.....

Dec 16, 2011 18:04

[There is a woman wandering through the snowstorm, pale as a ghost. Occasionally shadows pool around her feet unnaturally. If you get close enough, you can hear her singing a strange song.]

Deep in the shadows depths there's a place,
Where devils and demons presence does grace.
Petals fall and flowers wither,
Voices call "Come now, Come hither..."

[Bazett sighs as she notices the woman. For every person in the town with the good sense to wear enough clothing and hoarde supplies in preparation for the winter, there seems to be an idiot all too willing to freeze themselves to death.]

Are you sure you're wearing enough?

[She turns slowly, but her eyes are unfocused.]

Can you hear them calling?

Hear what? All I can hear is the wind and your singing.

The voices..... they're calling for me.

[Yeah, she's just crazy.]

I must go...

[Bazett pulls off her scarf and offers it to the woman.]

You should still keep warm, though. Otherwise, you might just go off and join your "voices."

But I am... supposed to join them. I must offer myself to them or they will become angry.

.....And Brother will punish me.

You can offer yourself some other time. Aren't sacrifices supposed to be done in the summer?

Why?

Sacrifices are made whenever Brother wishes.

And I am always punished when I am disobedient.

Your brother...does not sound like a good person.

[This is an understatment. Said "brother" sounded like a person that Bazett would likely try to kill if she ever encountered him in Mayfield.]

[She shudders slightly, and it may not be entirely from the cold.]

Brother can do as he pleases. He is the Devil King of the Sixth Heaven.

...I punch things like that for a living. If he bothers you, I'll help you punch him away.

[Okay, so this is a bluff, seeing as how she has never punched something so high ranked before. She has, however, punched copies of dead heroes and minor demons.]

No!

[A tiny bit of lucidity creeps into her gaze.]

Only death awaits those who defy Brother's will! You must not go against him!

His is not the only strong will around here. Even if I fail, I have allies who might be even stronger than I am.

You don't understand. Everyone....

Everyone always... dies. And it is always my fault.

[Tears start falling but she hardly seems to notice them.]

Lord Nagamasa..... What have I done?

[The shadows at her feet begin to swirl around, agitated.]

[She hates being thrown into these situations. She knows she is not good at comforting people, and yet still wants to help this woman. And so, she starts trying to use lines that she has heard her superior use during their confessions.]

It is never just your fault. All people have their own responsibilities and make their own choices. It is the culmination of these choices that lead to the final results.

It is my fault. If I hadn't been so weak... If I could have stopped him.

No...

If I'd obeyed Brother properly in the first place...

[She seems at a loss. She isn't sure which would have been better. To have defied her brother to protect those she cared about, or to not have become so deeply involved with others so she wouldn't care in the first place.]
