Recently,
aslansghost made a post about the new Tori Amos album, and she wrote a whole lot more and describes it much better, but anyway, i bought the new Tori album the other day. It is called American Doll Posse and i guess it is some kind of concept album, which is almost always a good thing in my opinion.
I haven't had time to give it a CLOSE listen, because i bought 4 CD's that day (i will halfass review the others as well).. BUT this is my third or 4th time listening to it (i'm listening right now) whereas i've only listened to the others 1 time through. Well C-Rayz Waltz i listened 1 and a 1/2 times while i was in the bedroom because it was the only CD in there and it was decent.
So back to Tori. From what i can feel before even looking at the lyrics (i need to look at lyrics while i listen in order to really hear the lyrics, because otherwise my brain is distracted) is that as far as the music goes, it is a tight album. TIGHT- like as in flawless in sound. It's quite good. And i'm pretty sure the lyrics will add a whole lot more love to the album once i hear them, so i'll give this 4.5, possibly 5 stars. Definately my favorite new purchase.
****1/2
the other 3 CD's are:
DINOSAUR JR- BEYOND
TOM WAITS- CLOSING TIME
C-RAYZ WAL
Z- 1975 RETURN OF THE BEAST
BEYOND
i haven't given it a real close listen, but first impression was sort of in limbo. It wasn't bad, and in fact could be qualified as quite good. The music was tight, but it lacked spontanaity and ups and downs. I will give it a better listen soon and i'll tell you if anything has changed. Sometimes good music is an aquired taste. For instance, the rapper Edan or the no longer existing band, Josette's Eye were both aquired for me. I never thought they were bad, but it took a few times through to understand how brilliant they were.
And i do think Dino Jr are a KICK ASS band, and not just cuz they are western mass hippy-crunchy boys, but cuz they really are a very Unique sound that works. Like, Bob Dylan (another aquired taste person)
So, anyway, i give it 3.5 stars ***1/2
C-Rayz Walz - 1975 Return of the Beast
This one was okay. Not nearly as good as the other C-Rayz Walz cd I have,
This one is called "Ravipops" (The Substance) I have no clue what that means, but it is a really kick ass rap album. Tight rhymes and beats. This guy is really good. His music is kind of "gangsta rap" style, and although he does sound hard or tough, i get the idea that he's more of a teddy bear kind of guy.
People often say he looks like the black version of Kevin Smith (Silent Bob). Lets see....
hmmmm, maybe?
Shall we take a poll? YES / NO / SHUT THE FUCK UP
those are your A B Cs
Okay, so ANYWAY,
1975 Return of the Beast i give **3/4
Ravipops however i would give ****1/2 that is a much better album. .

Tom Waits - Closing Time is a ***** star album.
The only thing that feels odd about it is the order of songs. I've always kind of wished these songs were in another order, but in the age of MP3 thats not really a problem, as i can put them in the order i would prefer and then burn it like that. I did buy this just the other day, but it was a replacement CD, because my other copy is too scratched and i love the CD so much... so, yeah. Tom Waits is fucking brilliant. If you are not familiar with him, give him a listen. He is one of the finest.
