I woke up at 11AM today, with my dad reminding me that I needed to go meet up with Katie (Rocky Horror Picture Show/Columbia/San Marino/CalPhil friend you guys know of) at Santa Anita mall in an hour and a half. Because of this, I didn't spend as much of today wallowing around in my own lethargy as usual, and will be posting more about our adventures than my usual introspective rambling.
Anyway, our original plan was to meet up with Brandon Lee (from CalPhil/Arcadia High), because tomorrow is his 17th birthday, and watch the sixth Harry Potter movie. It turned out that I'm the only one who has yet to see it, but that's okay. I fully plan on seeing it after PCC ends. We ended up finally congregating at CPK at 1PM, and getting seated at 1:15. I ordered the Vegetarian Pizza with Japanese Eggplant, and it was undisputably the best pizza I've ever had at CPK, including the ones with meat that I'd had before I changed my dietary plans. In all honesty, I never really have enjoyed CPK's pizza, so I took a gigantic risk today-that paid off. It was amazing. I was really full, though, so I took half home and it became dinner. Katie ordered half a salad and substituted shrimp for the chicken because she's pescetarian (the charge for that was 2$!), and Brandon got some Tomato Spinach Fusili or..something along those lines. While we ate, we decided to see The Hangover instead, because it sounded interesting. The showing was at 2:25, and we arrived at AMC at 2:20 with plans to go to Nubi after the movie ended. Brandon and I, who weren't old enough to enter rated-R movies yet :(, were just going to buy tickets for Up and meet up with Katie, but she bought 3 tickets for The Hangover for us. When we got to the concierge, though, she carded us. Ironically enough, the boy who was one day from being 17 was the one barred from the movie, because I (a year from being 17) flashed my USC ID that incidentally doesn't have my brithdate on it and was OKed. Well, the guy told us we could get a refund, so we exchanged the tickets for tickets to Up and walked into the Hangover (which was next door anyway) instead. 20 minutes into the movie, we were ejected by one of the workers. He basically chastised us for not listening to them and sneaking in. Really. I've never been so mortified in a theatre, but whatever. We ended up getting our refund and figured that it was a bit obvious that we were going to sneak in so they checked up on us.
We then went to Nubi's to get frozen yogurt. I tried out the Chocolate flavor this time, which tastes amazingly like...ice cream; Vanilla; and Pistachio again. We decided to go to Paseo instead; Katie and I checked on our Sidekicks and found that the showing was at 4PM, so we piled onto her car and went there. When we got there, she bought 3 tickets again-except they apparently changed the showing to 4:50, so we hung around Brookstone for the majority of the time. Apparently, they're selling these nifty new frog ecosystems-they include 2 tiny African frogs, a snail, and living rock (whatever that means). The idea of having frogs as pets scares me, but the things were the size of my thumb nail. I spent forever watching them. The salesperson told me that they'd live anywhere from 2-6 years, and the owner only has to wash out the tank twice a year. Amazingly low-maintenance, and cheap-at 40$ for the ecosystem. We then lay on the massage chairs like the freeloader Asians that we are and got our backs kneeded and feet squeezed. At 4:47, we reluctantly got up again and walked in.
We were carded AGAIN. I mean, what the hell! I think it's actually because I look really young. Both concierges looked at me when they asked for IDs, and then were taken aback when I showed my college ID. Once again, the security guard let me slide but gave Brandon a skeptical look. She finally let us through, saying that it wasn't her problem if security carded us at the door again. Luckily, security wasn't there, so we burrowed into the middle of the seats and weren't bothered again. :)
The movie was actually hilarious. It had nowhere near the vulgarity of, say, Bruno, or Harold and Kumar. Still, the R rating was necessary. It's the highest-grossing rated-R comedy film. :O I'd recommend it for someone who has...let's say a mature sense of humor. That's all I have to say about it.
In the previews, we saw an ad for THE Final Destination-the 4th one, is it? Even the preview scared me. :( And it's in 3-D as well! Apparently, "Death saved the best for last." Sigh. It looks like all the Final Destination movies have the same idea going, though-somebody gets a vision and saves a group of people from dying, and then they start dying off sequentially. Fantastic.
I got home after the movie, ate the rest of my pizza, and then spent the rest of the night in the peaceful but disgusting stupor I'm always in. You know, not preparing for the final I'm about to take on Wednesday at all. Yup, my life.
Oh, one last comment: Katie and I were talking about the possibility of not getting a phone with 3G internet (whenever) when our contracts ran out. Neither of us could even imagine it-as she said, "it'd be like taking one giant step backwards." I'm sure I don't need it, but it's become such an integral part of how I think that it's disturbing to think that I might not have it all the time. Her contract runs out in April, and she wants the Blackberry Bold-the only problem is that Verizon doesn't carry that specific Blackberry brand. So she's going to get AT&T. I'm hoping for a new Blackberry by August 2010 that doesn't include a touchscreen. :)
three shot four shot five shot-oh shit, i think i'm gone.
