Didn't I just do this? Seems like lately I have random things to say that are probably not worth posting, but I do it anyway.
1. Today is Ted Leo's birthday (AND, I think, his wedding anniversary), so he gets the icon. "The High Party" is his song that subtly references 9/11 and his birthday, so
here you go.
2. From an email I sent Moria earlier today because I know there are a few documentary fans here, too. I'm looking at you,
ardaliz.
Wait, I also wanted to ask if you still have Netflix during your time off. If so, add "The Two Escobars." SO GOOD.
Don't know if you've heard about ESPN's 30 for 30, but they did all these documentaries about the biggest sports stories from their 30 years of existence (which go way beyond just sports - this one's about how the Colombian national soccer team was tied in with the Colombian drug cartels) ... About half of them are on Netflix so far and I added them all. This one's only the second I've watched so far, and I LOVED IT.
I really enjoyed the first one, too, about the invention of rotisserie baseball, but that's a less weighty subject.
I can't wait to watch the rest. I feel like they may have been stigmatized as "made for TV" type things or people who don't care about sports will dismiss them, but this was maybe my favorite documentary I've seen this year.
So, that is a rambly way to say, if you like documentaries, you should give this series a try even if you're not a sports fan.
3.
Laura's tweet last night (or, her text to me on the subject) made me so happy. Steeler Nation! Like having a family of strangers wherever you go.
4. Speaking of Steeler Nation, I really want
this shirt with the Howard Cosell quote, but we all know I already have about a billion more Pittsburgh/sports shirts than I need. Oh well.
5. Spent a few hours today working on labels for the Guster pre-order, and I came across an order from Social Circle, Georgia. Is that not the oddest/funniest name for a town? I've also come across so many "famous" names and every one makes me laugh, every time. Michael Scott, Ryan Malone, Chris Kirkpatrick, etc. I know there were more, but I can't think of them, boo.
6. I'm bummed that I'm missing the Life Is Good fest tomorrow, because a) it's Joe's last show with the Gusters and b) OK Go will also be there. But I'm trying to look on the bright side which is: by not going to the festival, I'll be able to work from home in the early afternoon and watch the Steelers online before going to the office.
