SO, I watched the Penguins beat the Sabres, then the second half of BU beating Northeastern in the first round of the Beanpot, and then put on the special features of This Is It, which I had watched last night.

Meanwhile, I was browsing some post-game tweets, and saw one guy mention Kovalev's moonwalk. This happened many years ago, when he was still on the Penguins, and I thought, what are the chances I'd read that while watching Michael Jackson!? So I went and found it on youtube. But, not only is that all old and grainy and six seconds long, they also have a bar over his feet! The most important part!

But it turns out he just did it again a couple weeks ago! (Skip to about 1:40; you don't care about all the highlights.)

It was just weird how all this MJ and hockey came together. And oh, Kovy, I loved him back in the day. But now my only feeling about him is really that I can't BELIEVE I am apparently the only person in the world who knows (of) both him and Griffin House, so nobody else in the world understands how they look exactly alike. Someday, I'll come across a House/hockey fan!

While I'm here, I saved this article a couple weeks ago and then never did anything with it.

We all know I have a soft spot for kids-and-sports stories. So when this 19-year-old kid got to play for real in an NHL game, and played well, I was beside myself. When they named him a game star, I was giggling and clapping like an idiot alone in my apt. Then I read this article. And that part where the referee welcomed him to the NHL? And the end? Oh man, I totally cried.

It helped that he was seriously adorable, or maybe that's just because he reminds me of Andy.

And editing to add two videos for posterity:
*his post-game interview
*the confused third star!

(Even this article doesn't make it clear how unusual it is for a kid to be called up from a league that low on the relative totem pole. It's , like, a kids' league! I mean, they're talented kids, but ages 15-20! I'm still bewildered about the whole thing. Did that actually happen?)

how do it know?, school, family, penguins, griffin
