Movie update.

1) Steven Soderbergh, what are you trying to do to me? The piece they quote here is what I've been saying for years. Duh, dudes. I should run Hollywood.

2) If you have Netflix and even the slightest bit of affection for Rufus, add this to your queue. The music is friggin' brilliant, as always. But OMG, the other stuff! The home movie clips of toddler Rufus made me want to SQUEEEEZE HIM. The bonus feature called, I think, "Rufus Wainwright 1998" has him in plaid pants and crazy sweaters and spiky hair, and if I want to be friends with 2006 Rufus, I want even more to go back and be friends with 1998 Rufus. Anyway, I had to wait forever for that to come up from the "very long wait" on Netflix, but I rented it because I wasn't sure it was worth the $36 for the DVD. Now I think it might be worth buying and watching every day.

PS - I want this poster.

3) Holiday was thoroughly enjoyable. I can't tell if Katharine Hepburn was lucky enough to find the most amazing roles, or if she made those parts amazing. Probably a little bit of both. Linda Seton was another classic, crazy heroine. But Holiday didn't push The Awful Truth out of its place at the top of my list. That movie gets funnier every time I see it, and that's a lot of times. Cary Grant deserved an Oscar just for his smirk when he's watching Lucy do her dance as Lola. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, go rent it NOW.) And I have no idea why Irene Dunn isn't as famous as all those other legendary actresses, because she was a comedic genius. I think I've posted about that before, either here or in a comment somewhere else.

4) Go see movies at The Brattle Theater. They're having financial trouble, which is so unfair. Any theater that will show me a Cary Grant double feature and serve me popcorn, peppermint tea, and ice cream deserves to be sitting on piles of everyone's cash. Not just mine.

movies, cary grant, rufus
