“Yey! Secured another couple! Good Job Mirai!” Mirai exclaimed at the same time tapping her left shoulders with her right hand. She felt as if she won 1st place in some Championship game.
Mirai is known as the ‘Matchmaker’ in their school. She helps the girls to have a date with their crushes, and would ALWAYS succeed. Well, she just helps, not that it was 100% success since all the choices will be made by the couple.
Though she had successfully helped all those girls that needed help, she herself had no boyfriend SINCE BIRTH. Well, she preferred it this way since she thought that no one would like a glutton like her. Yes, you read it right, she’s a glutton. That’s why everytime someone asks for her help, they would end up spending all their savings since Mirai doesn’t do it for free.
“Nothing is free, even oxygen isn’t free. In fact it’s pretty expensive try asking the Hospital staffs”, she would always say that as an excuse. She was not someone who can’t afford food. She belonged to a not-so-poor-not-rich family, but since she’s a glutton, she would always end up spending all her one week worth of allowance in ONE DAY. Another thing, since she never had a boyfriend, it was always fun for her to watch other couples holding hands and hugging. She was single yet she was not the BITTER type who would curse all those who have boyfriend/girlfriend.
“You’re doing it again..” she heard from a familiar voice, she was sure it came from the school’s ‘Crush of the Campus’
“Yo! Yamada-kun! You have a crush right? Let me help you..” she said with a wide grin “Just buy me foo---” she didn’t get to finish what she was about say since Yamada interrupted her.
“tchh! Only those hopeless would resort to that kind of thing. In my case, I don’t have to do that since I’m the no.1 liked guy in this school” he said proudly but you could visibly see him blushing while looking at his right to avoid having an eye contact with Mirai.
“You have been saying that to me for two years already! You’re hopeless!” she teased Yamada whose face became redder. “No matter how popular you are, there must be girls who won’t fall for your charms, come on! Tell me who she is, and I’ll definitely help you” she said bumping her right shoulders to his left shoulders with a wide grin. She always loved to tease Yamada since she knew that he had a crush but this crush of his never noticed him, no matter how cool he gets. Plus she gets to see his red face whenever she teases him and she never fails to enjoy watching his reaction.
Yamada Ryosuke, the guy next door, literally since he lives next to Mirai’s house. He is known as the “Crush of the Campus”, wanna know why? His looks are rated as superior, he has an I.Q of 125 which makes him a super intelligent person, and he’s also good at sports, that’s why. Almost every girl in their school has her heart, ALMOST, since the girl of her dreams did not harbor romantic feelings for him.
“Come on, classes is about to start” he said still avoiding to have an eye contact with her. They then went back to their classroom.
“Mirai-chan! You’re with Yamada-kun again!” her friend said
“Umi-chan, didn’t I tell you for the NTH time already, nothing is going on between us. He has someone he likes!” she replied to her friend Umika, who insists that Yamada likes Mirai.
“Mirai, trust me, he likes you” she said nodding and patting Mirai’s head while closing her eyes.
“I told you, it’s not like that. By the way, Hikaru-senpai and Tomo-neechan are now officially dating. Tomo-neechan texted me about 10 minutes ago” she excitedly shared the story to Umika.
“Really?! That’s good!! But you’ve become the bridge for other people’s love life, don’t you think it’s about time for you to have a lovelife?” she asked her friend
“You know I don’t go in for that stuff. Well, I do have a love right now” she teased Umika.
Umika was surprised, she was glad since her boyish matchmaker friend has someone she loves “WHO??!” she asked excitedly.
“You really want to know?” she loved how Umika’s cute eyes widen when she mentioned love. Umika then nodded, so she whispered to Umika “the name is FOOD”
“Ehh.. I thought you’re serious this time. Hey, can you lend me your phone? My Battery just ran out. My mother will kill me if I won’t inform her that my phone’s battery died since she gave me an errand” Umika said.
After that their teacher came and started her classes. Umika didn’t have time to return the phone to Mirai since their teacher started her class already. After their classes Mirai decided to go to the rooftop to have a breeze of fresh air and forgot about her phone. While Umika forgot to return Mirai’s phone since she was rushing to buy what her mother told her to buy.
“Uwaaaah!” Mirai shouted her heart out. The thought of bringing together two hearts in love still lingered her mind, her heart was fluttering out of joy. She stretched and decided to lie down on the bench. She stared at the sky with the thought “Such a nice sky!” then giggled remembering how she got Tomomi date Hikaru. Without realizing it, she fell asleep on the rooftop.
Chinen Yuri was waiting at the classroom for Yamada Ryosuke who promised to go to the bookstore with him to buy the latest issue of Myojo in which his favorite idol from Arashi, Ohno Satoshi will be the cover. Ryosuke was called by the teacher to discuss with something. He was waiting patiently but he got bored eventually. Chinen was not that patient, he hated waiting the most, and it had been 20 minutes since Ryosuke left. “He said he will be back immediately, tch!” he mumbled then stood up to look for Ryosuke. “Bang!” he was surprised to see Umika with her face on the floor and medicines for flu was scattered on the floor. He thought “Was she planking?” then decided to help her.
“Wha-what are you doing? Are you alright?” he asked then started picking up for the scattered medicines. Umika then stood up as if nothing happened then collected the medicines.
“Mirai left already right?” she immediately said looking straight at Yuri’s eyes.
“I don’t think so. Her bag is still in the classroom though” Yuri replied then handed the medicines to Umika.
“Thank you” she said “Thank Goodness she has not left yet! I have her phone, I forgot to give it back to her” she added
“Let’s just look for her then. I was about to look for Yama-chan too. He said a teacher called him but it has been 20 minutes already. I don’t think he’s still at the Teachers office” he said
“Sure!” Umika replied
They looked for them everywhere but they did not see Yamada nor Mirai
“Let’s try the rooftop” Umika suggested, they then headed to the rooftop.
When the two arrived at the rooftop, they saw Mirai sleeping at the bench while Yamada was staring intently at Mirai’s face. As soon as Chinen saw this he, grabbed Umika’s arm then hid behind the pile of rusted chairs. “Shh” Chinen said as he was gesturing to Umika to be quiet which she obeyed then focused back to the pair.
Mirai was sleeping and looked really defenseless while Ryosuke was sitting beside her, staring at Mirai’s face then smiled. He then brushed her cheeks, slowly he leaned closer to Mirai’s face until his lips touched Mirai’s lips. Umika was surprised she was about to stand up when Yuri covered her mouth and held her with his strong hands to prevent her from blowing their cover. “Shhh!” he shushed Umika then she nodded and went back to the pair they were eyeing. Yamada probably felt guilty for stealing a kiss from Mirai so he stood up then walked as fast as he could and exited the rooftop while Mirai was still sleeping without knowing that someone kissed her.
“What was that?!” Umika asked Chinen with a low voice
“I was surprised too! I never thought it was Mirai whom he liked” replied
“I knew it! He liked Mirai!” Umika said then smirked “I have a plan..” she added then diverted her stare from Yuri to Mirai.
Curious Yuri asked “What is it?” looking straight to Umika trying to guess what she’s thinking. “What if we bring those two together?” She said wearing a sly smile on her face “And I need your help in order for this plan to work, will you help me?” she added looking straight at Yuri’s eyes that made his heart skip a bit.
“Sure, what is this plan of yours?” he asked.
She then whispered “You know that Mirai is known as a Matchmaker right?” then Yuri nodded “I will use that to bring those two together” she added
“But how?” he asked
“I’ll tell her I like you” she said boldly
Yuri’s world stopped for a little while, “I like you” with Umika’s voice kept on echoing in his mind while his heart was beating rapidly.
“You don’t want to help me?” Umika asked Yuri who was just staring at her. Hearing those words from Umika, he snapped and went back to reality “I will help you” he replied.
She smiled “Here’s the plan, hearing that I like you, she will try to help us. Your job is to pretend that you know nothing and drag Yamada in every scheme she will think” she explained
“Got it! When will the plan start?” he asked
“Maybe the moment she will wake up. Wait a moment, I need your number in order to contact you but the problem is, the battery of my phone died” she said
“Then can I get your number? I’ll just text you then save my number” he suggested “I have an idea, what if you pretend you don’t have my number and she will ask Yama-chan my number. But be sure you give her hints that Yama-chan and I are close” he added
“That would be good!” she exclaimed. Mirai then started to wake up from her slumber rubbing her eyes.
“Now go” she told Yuri, he then exited the rooftop.
Looking as if nothing happend Umika skipped towards Mirai “Found you!” she said
“Oh! I thought you went home already” Mirai answered
“Yeah, I was about to go home from the pharmacy when I remembered that I have not returned your phone yet so I decided to go back and return the phone to you, here” she explained then handed the phone to Mirai
“Thanks!” she replied
“I have something to tell you” Umika said looking down as if she was getting shy.
“What is it?” Curious Mirai asked
“I like someone, actually I have liked him for a long time already. It’s just now that I have gathered courage to tell you” she told Mirai who was paying attention to what she was saying.
“Who is it?” she asked excitedly just as Umika predicted
“Yamada-kun’s friend” she said then covered her face, pretending like she was getting shy from what she said.
“Ah! Chinen Yuri??!!” she exclaimed while Umika covered Mirai’s mouth.
“Shhh! Don’t say it loudly” she said
“I get it!” Mirai replied wearing smile that span from ear to ear. “I’ll help you!” she proudly said. Umika was glad since her plan is starting to work.
“Really?! Thank you!!” she replied then hugged Mirai tightly. After that, both of them decided to go home.
On the contrary, Ryosuke felt guilty, the the image of him kissing Mirai flashed in his mind and it was killing him, not to mention she was sleeping. He felt like he was a thief, stealing something from Mirai secretly. His body acted on his own that time, he couldn’t help it. While Chinen who was with him tried to prevent himself from laughing, Ryosuke’s face was so red, he knew that it was because of the kiss. Yuri couldn’t hold it much longer, he laughed.
Yamada who was curious why his friend laughed, asked “What happened?”
Yuri couldn’t say it was because of what he saw earlier, good thing he noticed that Yamada’s face was as red as tomato “You look like a tomato, very red” he said as an excuse “What happened?” he added
Yamada panicked for a second, he remembered his kiss to Mirai. “Really?” he replied looking away avoiding Yuri’s eyes. While Yuri smirked thinking “It’s all written in your forehead, you’re guilty from stealing a kiss from the sleeping Mirai right?”.
“Yeah, what happened” he asked again
“Nothing really” he denied
“Oh, I see” Yuri replied
After that the two of them went to the bookstore and bought the magazine then went home.
The next day, Mirai was extremely happy. Her friend has someone she likes “Explains why she always told me that Yamada liked me. It was because she liked Yamada’s best friend. I’m gonna bring those two together!” she thought.
When she arrived in her classroom, as expected, Umika, Yamada and Yuri was there. As usual Yamada and Chinen was surrounded with girls.
“GOOD MORNING! Umi-chan!” she greeted loudly
“Good Morning!” Umika replied
“Let’s ask for Chinen’s number” she whispered
She had no Idea that Umika already had Yuri’s number. Actually, last night Chinen called her, they talked about the plan. Chinen thought of the plan to bring Yamada and Mirai together and of course to impress Umika with his ‘intelligence’. True, Chinen was always next to Yamada in terms of rankings during examination and such. They planned to have a “Group Study” at Yamada’s house.
Mirai then walked towards the direction where Chinen and Yamada seated. She then waited for Yamada to look into her way and when he did she signaled him to come closer. Yamada walked towards Mirai “What’s up?” he asked. Mirai was about to ask Yamada to give her the number of Chinen when she noticed that everyone was looking at them. Embarrased Mirai blushed then dragged Yamada out of their classroom.
“What’s going on?” He asked
“Can I have your bestfriend’s number?” she asked holding her phone
“You mean Yuri?” he said
“Yep, Chinen Yuri” she replied
“Oh!! Don’t tell me.. about Yuri… You?” Yamada asked, wishing that Mirai doesn’t like Yuri
“Haaaa?! That’s not it! I need his number for a friend!” She said with a proud smile
“Matchmaking AGAIN?!!” he replied
“Why??! Don’t you want your friend to have a girlfriend? Don’t tell me you’re a..” she said “my gosh, I pity your fans" she added then shook her head
“Huh?! I’m not, if it’s just Yuri’s number your asking then here” he replied then gave the number to Mirai. She then copied the number and thanked him.
“So easy to manipulate” she mumbled
“What did you say?” he asked
“Ah, nothing, let’s go back” she said. They then went back to the classroom.
On the other hand, Chinen and Umika were talking about their plan.
“Let’s start?” Chinen asked
“Sure” Umika replied. As if on cue, Mirai and Ryosuke entered the classroom.
“Yama-chan, let’s have a group study later after school!” Yuri asked Yamada
“Sure! Your place?” he asked
“No, my sister will bring her classmates at home today. Can we do it at yours?” he replied
“Yeah sure” he answered. Hearing this, Mirai butted in and asked “Can we come too? I’m having a difficulty about Algebra” she then grabbed Umika’s arm.
“Sure, Umi-chan too?” Chinen asked then Mirai nodded enthusiastically.
“Then let’s go home together” Yamada answered with a smile. He was happy since it has been a dream for him to go home together with Mirai. Sure, they’re neighbors but they NEVER went home together.
After that they had their classes. He couldn’t hide how happy he was since he will be going home with her ignoring the fact that Yuri and Umika will be with them. Hours passed as if it was seconds. It’s now time to go home, he and Yuri was waiting for Mirai and Umika. Chinen noticed that Ryosuke was sweating, seeing his friend was sweating, he started to tease him.
“You’re sweating Yama-chan? Nature’s calling?” he asked Yamada
“No! I’m just--- I’m.. It’s really hot ne?” he answered trying to change the topic
“Really? It’s just normal for me though” Yuri replied. Yamada didn’t know how to answer so he looked to his right. Upon looking on his right he saw Mirai and Umika coming to their way. Umika was walking while Mirai was running. His heart started to beat fast, Mirai just looked perfect for him. Her bouncing hair that ran to her shoulders looked as if she was in a movie. For Yamada, she seemed like a goddess making everything around her disappear. It’s as if she was running in a slow-motion; Yamada’s mouth was wide open.
“That face was priceless!! I should have taken a picture of it and sold it to all your fans, I bet that would be good for a meal. The title of the picture would be ‘Yamada’s Idiot Face’. That would be perfect” she said making fun of Yamada.
“At least someone would buy my pictures” he replied “Let’s just head home okey?” he added the patted Mirai’s head.
On their way home, Yamada’s heart was so close to exploding, he was walking with Mirai on their way home while Umika and Yuri were together behind them. He felt butterflies in his tummy, “Gosh! She looks so perfect!” he thought. While Yuri and Umika was talking, he overheard the word ‘kiss’, he immediately turned his face towards Yuri who was walking behind him.
“What? I was talking about Kis-My-Ft2, don’t tell me you’re interested too” Yuri teased him. Actually, Umika and Yuri really meant it, they wanted to see Ryosuke’s face when he hears the word kiss.
“I’m not interested with it” he said then looked away. His reaction pleased Umika and Yuri
“Did you see his face?” Yuri asked Umika in a low voice
“Yeah! That was priceless!” Umika replied with a giggle.
“Were here” Ryosuke exclaimed “Come in” he added
They then went inside the house, no one was home.
“Your mom ain’t home?” Mirai asked
“Yeah, she’s having a reunion with her batchmates” he answered
Yamada then led them to the living room where they will have their group study. He asked them to wait first since he will bake cookies for them. Chinen seated beside Umika and they were staring at each other. It almost seemed as if they were talking, seeing this, Mirai felt like she needed to go so she went to where Yamada was. She then saw Yamada mixing the ingredients for the cookies he was about to bake. Mirai’s heart started to beat rapidly, for a moment; he looked so cool, mixing the ingredients. For her, he looked like a prince, with stars and sparkles all around him. Her mother never looked like that when she was baking cookies. She was entranced with what she saw, without noticing she was already staring at him.
Feeling as if someone was staring at him he looked up the ‘poof’ he caught Mirai staring at him, he smiled and asked “Come here” acting cool which he successfully did since that gave a stinging feeling to Mirai’s innocent heart. Mirai nodded and was unable to utter words.
“You look so pretty today Mirai” Ryosuke said. Those words just escaped from his mouth without asking permission from his mind. While Mirai was surprised, her whole stopped for a moment for no apparent reason. She never felt this way before; Yamada’s words hit Mirai’s heart. She felt like she wanted to melt.
“Don’t say that! You’re the one who looks so cool baking cookies” she responded pushing Yamada’s side trying to hide the blush that appeared in her face.
“Really? Then I shall make cookies everyday in order for you to think I’m cool” he teased her while shaping the cookies. After that he placed the cookies in the oven and waited for it to be baked. When the cookies were baked, Mirai was salivating. Ryosuke noticed this so he asked “Want to taste it first?” he asked then Mirai nodded. “Say aaah” he said, “aaah” she obeyed, opening her mouth wide open then Yamada placed a piece of cookie in her mouth “How is it?” he asked with a bright smile Mirai can’t possibly ignore. “Mmmmmm! So DELICIOUS!” she said “two thumbs up” she added with a thumbs up gesture.
On the other hand, Chinen and Umika were spying what the two are doing. To their surprise, they saw Yamada giving the food to Mirai. The two of them looked perfect for each other.
“I think our plan will work perfectly” Chinen said
“I think so too” Umika replied.
Noticing that both Mirai and Ryosuke were coming their way, the two panicked and went back to their seat pretending to study.
“I baked this cookies, wanna taste?” Ryosuke asked
“It’s SUPER DELICIOUS!!” Mirai said with her eyes closed.
“Really?” Umika replied
Chinen picked two pieces of cookies, he handed one of it to Umika “Yama-chan is good at cooking, here try it” he said. Umika received the cookie from Chinen and ate it “It’s good!” she exclaimed.
“Right?!” Mirai said stuffing the cookies to her mouth
“Let us start!” Ryosuke exclaimed
They started their group study. 30 minutes have already passed, Umika signaled Chinen to start their plan.
“Yama-chan, Can I use your comfort room?” he said then Ryosuke nodded.
Chinen went to the comfort room and dialed Umika’s number. Umika’s phone rang and she answered it.
“Yes mom?......I’m at a friend’s house. We’re having a group study…….yes…..really?........okey……Bye” she said then closed the phone.
“Guys, mom said I should go home now. She asked me to go the market” she added
“I see” Mirai replied
“Sorry, but I really need to go now” she said then went out. When Yuri heard the doors close, he knew that was the signal. Umika’s already out, he then went back to the living room.
“Where’s Umi-chan?” he asked
“She went home. Her mother asked her to go to the market” Ryosuke replied
“Too bad” he said then pouted. Mirai noticed this so she thought “Maybe Chinen likes Umika too” then smiled.
Fifteen minutes later, Chinen’s phone rang, it was Umika and he answered it “Yes Onee-chan?.......Eehhh?!......But---- okey I get it…bye” he then closed his phone.
“Your sister?” Ryosuke asked
“Yep. She asked me to buy a cake. She wanted to eat it with her friends” he replied
“I see, then you’re going home?” he asked
“No, I’m not. I’ll buy cake first then go home” he replied then packed his things and went out.
Now, Umika and Chinen are out. Well, not that ‘out’ since they’re peeking right at Yamada’s window.
Silence filled the house which is contrary to what Ryosuke was feeling, he was sweating so hard and his heart was racing. He’s alone with Mirai right now and he thought “This will be the perfect time to confess”, he wanted to confess but he couldn’t. His tongue won’t let him.
While Mirai wanted to melt. She never thought that being alone with Yamada would give her irregular heartbeats. She thought “Why am I feeling this way?” then tried to shrug the thought off. That would be impossible since she had never been in love and she has no intention to fall in love.
She then remembered one of her friends whom she helped.
Mirai was asking that time how will a person know she likes someone, the person replied “Your heart will race everytime you see him. When he touches you, you feel like you have been electrified. You feel happy and warm when you see his smile, and no matter what, he will look really handsome whenever you see him”
Mirai shook her head which Yamada noticed
“What’s wrong? Are you not feeling good?” he asked putting his hands in Mirai’s forehead. Mirai felt like there was a bolt of electricity in his touch, she then blushed. That moment, she concluded, she likes Yamada.
“Uh-uhm, I’m fine Yamada-kun” She replied and was blushing so hard
“That’s a relief, I wouldn’t want you to be sick” he said
“Why would it be a relief if I won’t get sick? It’s not like you’re the one whose gonna buy me medicines when I get sick right?” Mirai asked, she was really happy since Yamada was concerned with her health.
While Yamada panicked with Mirai’s question, “Should I confess now? It’s now or never” he thought. He took a deep breath since his heart is now so close to exploding.
“Since you’re important to me Mirai-chan, I don’t want the person I like to get sick. Mirai-chan I like, no I love you. Will you go out with me” said Ryosuke while Mirai’s jaw dropped. She couldn’t believe what she just heard, a confession? It’s the first confession she received. Her head went blank, and she just discovered her feelings towards Ryosuke. 5-minutes had not passed yet from her discovery and all of the sudden he confesses to her. She was speechless, she wanted to leap out of joy, she had this indescribable happy feeling, Mirai’s crush liked her back. Just the thought of that sent to paradise.
“It’s okay. You don’t have to answer right away” Ryosuke said. You can see a glint of sadness in his eyes, as if he wanted to cry since Mirai did not answer while wearing a poker face. Not a smile, not a frown but a ‘no-emotion’ face.
Hearing those words from Yamada, she snapped out of her Mental Flailing and replied “Then, please take care of me”.
Yamada was not sure if it was a dream or reality “Can you say it one more time? This time can you do it while pinching me? It’s too good to be true” he asked with a BIG grin on his face
“Please take care of me” she said while pinching Yamada’s cheeks, “Please take care of me, my chubby, strawberry loving buta” then kissed Yamada’s nose.
“How did you know I like strawberries?” Yamada asked
“I have all the necessary information about you” She replied with a grin
“Oh really, if that’s the case I have another confession to make” he said
“What is it?” she replied
“I kissed you on the rooftop yesterday when you were sleeping. Sorry” he said
“Where?” Mirai answered with her heart beating so fast
“Here” Yamada then kissed Mirai’s lips but immediately broke it.
“That was unfair!” Mirai protested but with a smile on her face
“Want to do it again?” he teased her
On the other hand, the two that had been observing outside the house knew that Yamada already confessed. They saw everything, even Mirai’s kiss on the nose and Ryosuke’s stealing of the kiss.
“I’m so happy for Mirai! That kiss was so sweet, Yamada-kun stole a kiss from her and I think that’s really sweet” Umika exclaimed
“Shall I steal a kiss from you then?” Chinen asked while Umika blushed
“Stop that!” she said “Mission Accomplished?” she added
“Yeah, Mission accomplished” Chinen replied then hi-fived Umika.
