Mother's Day Haiku, Photos, Boxing and an Interview? Oh my!

May 10, 2010 13:18

I've been sick with a head cold that only really hit Saturday night. Since then I've been spending my time resting, taking medicine, drinking orange juice, and...writing haiku.

Here's a selection of three I had printed and framed for my mother on Mother's Day. Granted, I was probably still asleep when she saw this at her place, but I'm glad that she enjoyed them.

To my dear mother
From her still slumbering son
Some haiku for you

Open arms, warm smile
Gentle hugs ease pain away
To be a mother

I hope these words will
Give you warmth when you are cold
Happy Mother’s Day

A lot has happened lately. I was featured in a gallery at the Maryland Art Place and got to auction off The Boxer photo. It was already published in Bartleby but, since it was shot in Baltimore, I chose to have that one featured. Half of the proceeds would go to supporting the Maryland Art Place while I would keep the other half. I set the original bid for $30 and, gratefully, it ended at $100. I'll be using the proceeds to help pay off my student loans. I did, however, make a photocopy of the check and put it, and the letter, in a frame and have it hanging up in my room.

I've also been accepted into Artscape; quite possible Baltimore's biggest art show. There were 40 openings and 111 applicants so I'm very happy that I was able to get in. I'm on a waiting list, for now, but once there's an opening I'll have a table there and also more details on where you can find me. Once again, all proceeds made at Artscape will go towards paying off my student loans.

I've been accepted into the PhotoSuite staff for Otakon this year. I've sent a second e-mail to their Chief of Staff regarding my inquiry to be a part of the Press. I want to provide photographic coverage to the concerts and the fashion show so I hope that works out. It'll work out for me, too, since I'll have more portfolio items for concerts after Otakon, if all goes according to plan. Here's a link to some of my concert photos:

This past March 30th marked my 4 year anniversary with Tina. I still can't believe its been so long. I took her to Longwood Gardens to celebrate. She's never been before so I was really happy to see her enjoy herself there. Here are some photos:

The last one I ended up using as a wallpaper on my computer.

I quit my gym membership with World Gym. As of now I'm currently attending Club One Fitness; the equipment is in better condition, the staff nicer, and they have free boxing classes. Granted, due to my head cold and work I won't be able to attend any this week. Next week, however, I intend to go every Monday through Thursday. I'll still keep going to the gym every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday but I'll go in the early morning to allow time for boxing at night since class is at 7:15pm.

Why boxing, you ask? Granted, I have no interest in competing but for an overall workout and for building up your shoulder muscles; boxing is, as they say, FTW. As you know, I had my back surgery in 2001 but, by correcting my back, my right shoulder was pushed out of place. It was rather painful, to put it simply, but I've been doing exercises to build it up and the popping is, nowadays, all but nonexistent. I want to use boxing to build up my shoulder even more.

I have some good news!!! This past Tuesday I had an interview with Maryland Composition and they liked me so much that I've been invited for a second interview this coming Friday at 10am. I'm really excited! I'll be participating in their Leadership Development Program. I have every intention of working my way up to Vice President someday if I get in.

I've been watching Babylon 5 with Carl from the start. We're currently up to season 5 and, though Tina doesn't really care for sci-fi shows, she is hooked on B5. When I see her this Thursday I'll be giving her the season 4 boxset to watch. To this day I'm still impressed with how well written the show is.
